Marc’s work results in the establishment of a large test field where he & more nice helpers have planted a great amount of vegetation - estimating a minimum of 50,000 trees that are now growing, along with other forest elements, grasses and vegetables 🌿
August 28th this magical place will be open for a day immersed in nature, focused on learning regenerative methods and techniques with a guided visit to the experimental field developed by Marc in cooperation with Ernst Götsch.
Registration open at [email protected]. See you soon! 🌿

Ending the week with a deep sense of joy, happiness and fulfillment. Thank you to all that were part of this wonderful team. Another step is made for us to be able to show what is really possible in terms of agriculture and ecosystem restoration in the Mediterranean. Let’s grow together! 🌳🌿🍂🐝
Excited to share some pictures from our last three days planting event at Quinta das Abelhas 🐝 Planting a new agroforest with the presence and teachings from Ernst Götsch (@agendagotsch ) and a group of generous helpers that we divided into tree working teams: one treating the plantation that we established one year ago, another preparing the new field and last but not least planning high abundance of trees and tree seeds in the new field. 💪🌿🌳
A nice autumn day spent with @marc.leiber , @joanamkhorta & @zeabreulima in our farm planting pistacia lentiscus in the first experimental field. We also took a long walk in the Montado Alentejano to find some acorn and prepared the the 13.000 plants, 80.000 tree seeds and cuttings for the plantation action at our new field next week. Excited to share our work during the upcoming days. 🌿🍂🍁
To build up knowledge and practical experience @marc.leiber realized a nine month long apprenticeship on the farm of Ernst Götsch in Bahia, Brazil. This gave Marc the opportunity to attain an intimate experience of learning from his teacher and inspiration as well as put what he was learning actively into practice. During this time, he realized the clearing and replantation of a forest planted by Götsch 18 years earlier with the goal to introduce a greater diversity of species under the improved conditions of the site. Even though the lessons he gained on how to successfully plant a Syntropic Farming plantation were immense, even bigger were the lessons of how to trust and listen to nature. This last point was the most life changing aspect of this experience for him, which he continues to carry in his heart until today. 💚🌿🌴
Exciting announcement! - The @renature foundation is now our official partner, supporting our project through financing, monitoring and evaluation, as well as supply chain optimization.
Our relationship goes back a long time, as the co-founder of reNature, @felipebvillela , and GrowBack founder, @marc.leiber , began university studies together five years ago. Together they discovered and learned about agroforestry and began developing an agroforestry model farm close to university with a group of friends. They realized their first business meetings, pitching agroforestry to numerous stakeholders and also traveled to the farm of Ernst Götsch.
For both Felipe and Marc these days of dreaming of a green and forested planet mark unforgettable memory. Their dedication, drive, and enthusiasm to make this vision a reality will always remain. 🌱🌿🌳
The first test field on our experimental farm, Quinta das Abelhas, has now proudly and strongly passed through the first summer and is entering the first autumn. A week after the first rains, the spaces in between the tree rows are becoming green again, and the vegetable cultures we planted in between the rows are developing well. 🌿
Within this 2500m2 large field we focused on five cash crops: Citrus, Grapes, Figs, Olives, and Walnuts. Along with them are planted over 16,000 individual trees of more than 30 species, such as for example the native oak (Quercus spp.) and ash trees (Fraxinus angustifolia). 🐝🌳
The main inspiration behind our project and manner of working the land is Ernst Götsch (@agendagotsch ). He has dedicated the past forty years of his life towards the development of a set of agricultural principles and techniques that have become known as ‘Syntropic Farming’. Amongst many other reference sites, his own farm in Bahia, Brazil stands out as an exceptional showcase for economically viable agricultural production that is solely based on an intimate understanding of how the ecosystem functions and how to integrate cash crops into it. 🌱
Götsch has been realizing a number of works in the Mediterranean ecosystem for the past years (f.e. @lalomaviva , @terrasintropica , @freixodomeio , @mazifarm ) and is since the beginning strongly involved in our project in the Portuguese Alentejo. With his assistance we are working on building financially viable fruit production agroforestry systems that have the goal to approximate themselves as closely as possible to a complete realization of the principles of Syntropic farming. 🌳

This photo sequence reflects on the urgency of creating forests instead of deserts 🌳🏜
Modern Agriculture and forestry, as well as the resulting climatic changes, are putting the Iberian Peninsula at high risk of desertification. Our current attitude and manner of action can no longer continue.
For the past 10 months Marc Leiber (@marc.leiber ) has been working on his farm, Quinta das Abelhas, to apply the principles of Syntropic Agriculture in order to seek solutions to this current issue. The results are exceptional. 🌱🌿
We're now extending our work and applying our knowledge gained in the past months to a second field. We couldn't be more excited!🌰🌧
Thank you for the beautiful documentation @romankniefotografie
Founder of this initiative, GrowBack, @marc.leiber is a young farmer dedicated to planting agroforestry systems in the Mediterranean climate.
Student of Ernst Götsch for now three and a half years Marc completed a nine month internship, as a part of his studies in Agriculture, at the Fazenda Olhos D'Água, in Piraí do Norte, Bahia. In October 2019 he acquired a five hectare large property in the Portuguese Alentejo to put what he learned in to practice.
Since then, he is working to adapt the principles and techniques of Syntropic Farming on an experimental field of half a hectare within his property, called Quinta das Abelhas, with the ultimate goal to create scalable and sustainable models for agroforestry systems in the Mediterranean. 🌳
