Once Beginning, Never Ending is out today on Bandcamp and all of your favourite streaming platforms. To be honest, the process of making this record was anxiety inducing up until the recording day. For about 10 years, the idea of a solo record had been floating around in my head and was getting to the point in which it was all I thought about. So, I just booked a session at
@queensuisabel and said to myself “I guess we will see what comes up by then.”
Originally I wanted to make an electric trio record which then turned into wanting to make a record of standards (this didn’t last long) and then an Americana album. At one point, I considered a funk recording. Clearly, what ended up being released was none of those things.
The funny thing is that I was not uncomfortable in having my compositions recorded and certainly not uncomfortable in studio sessions. However, in all of those other situations, I was either part of a Democratic team or there was a leader who was not me. Records are very expensive and take a lot of work to organize. This is all before you even get to music making!
Once I got into the room on the session date, it was pretty clear that there was a strong support system behind me and everyone’s contributions led to this beautiful, unique piece of art that I am so proud of. The compositions might be mine but I feel like I can’t just call this my own album. The band featured in the photos of this post really brought the music to a place I couldn’t imagine myself.
