Our next reveal in our film line-up, Put Your Feet In My Shoes! By @_fart_attack_ starring @mrboyfood Film programme director @picturesofbernadette notes: I had the pleasure of being one of the first to see this amazing film in public for the first time at its launch in the form of a video artwork at St. Brides as part of @indybiennial . Since then the film has screened at the amazing Sandbox Showcase @lmfliverpool & was officially selected and awarded Audience Award at the brilliant @horizonfilmfestival ! It is a special film charting a unique journey, yet a journey that so many people seeking asylum have their own version of, often unheard, unseen. Come and put your feet in @mrboyfood shoes and watch this film live in a beautiful woodland setting! Film summary: Put Your Feet In My Shoes invites audiences to join self-assured protagonist Marco Polo on his perilous journey across the Mediterranean to seek sanctuary in Europe. This colourful, cartoon-like, funny and painfully honest approach will sweep you off your feet and into the author’s shoes, giving new vantage points to address prevailing narratives about people seeking asylum. Autobiographical to the co-authors own journey to Europe the work blends traditional analogue techniques with digital technologies including live video, green screen, animation, set building and prop making – with poetic audio and an artistic soundtrack created by Rob Wingfield. 🎥 THE SANDBOX SHOWCASE SPOTLIGHT 🎬 Next up in our February Sandbox Showcase lineup is Put Your Feet in My Shoes, a powerful audio-visual work by creative collaborators @_fart_attack (Michelle Wren) and @mrboyfood (Kazem Ashourzadeh). The film follows ‘Marco Polo’ as he retraces the perilous journey he took to Europe in search of refuge. Drawing directly from Kazem’s lived experience, the work resists the framing of victimhood and instead reclaims the narrative with defiance, wit, and agency. Marco Polo travelled the world without a passport… so why shouldn’t he? Created during a four-month residency at @fact_liverpool Studio Lab and filmed on location on the Greek island of Chios, the first island Kazem arrived at in Europe, the piece assembles fragments of memory through real photographs, Google Street View scans, and a striking blend of analogue and digital techniques. Live video, green screen, stop-motion animation, set-building, and prop-making collide with an atmospheric soundscape by Rob Wingfield to create a deeply immersive experience. The work was inspired by Kazem’s battered shoes, the ones he walked to Europe in and the photographs taken along the way, where he appears well-dressed and presentable, passing as a tourist while concealing the danger of the journey beneath the surface. Designed to loop across its 13-minute runtime, the film places audiences inside the emotional push and pull between Marco Polo’s optimism and the identity imposed on him by Europe. Put Your Feet in My Shoes is an urgent response to the growing anti-migrant sentiment across Europe, shaped by the UK race riots of 2024 and the protests outside a Liverpool hotel housing people seeking asylum in 2023. It draws inspiration from My Dream Is A World Without Hatred, a zine co-produced with people in Liverpool seeking asylum after the riots, grounding the work firmly in community, resistance, and care. Catch Put Your Feet in My Shoes as part of our upcoming Sandbox Showcase next week at @picturehouse_fact . Doors open at 5:00PM for the pre-show mixer, screenings begin at 6:30 PM, followed by our post-show gathering in the bar. £4 tickets in bio! Lots of love, The LMF Gang 💙

Long over due and very pleased to finally share this Zine online ‘My Dream is a World Without Hatred - Experiences of racism of local people who are seeking asylum’ (link in bio) In the wake of the racist riots of summer 2024, we saw many people in our community come out to defend buildings and communities against the far right. There was an amazing turn out but we noticed nobody asked people who are seeking asylum how they were feeling or what they were experiencing. We held a series of cooking workshops where we reflected on our experiences of racism and how we feel about anti-migrant narratives in the media. This zine was produced by @_fart_attack_ using transcripts from those cooking sessions. Our amazing collaborators and friends at @synergiproject (check out their work) have kindly hosted the Zine on their site, take the time to read and share widely you’ll find the link in the bio. Anti-migrant hate is on the rise across the UK, but the voices of people seeking asylum are rarely heard. This zine provides a rare opportunity to listen to the experiences and dreams of our community in our own words. We are very keen to expand on this work, please get in touch if you have ideas or would like to support.

We’re proud to have contributed to the artwork Put Your Feet in My Shoes by Michelle Wren and Kazem Ashourzadeh, which was recently presented as part of the @indybiennial in Liverpool. The installation featured real fragments of dinghies that we at Lesvos Solidarity collected from the shores of Mytilene— the remains of boats used by people seeking safety in Europe. These pieces, worn down by sea and stone, highlight the dangerous conditions of these journeys and the lack of safe and legal pathways. We’ve never recovered a whole boat — only pieces. And these pieces carry real meaning. The same materials are used in our Safe Passage Bags project, where displaced people and locals in Lesvos work together to upcycle lifejackets and dinghie parts into bags that tell stories and raise awareness. We're especially moved by how the work reflects our shared values — recognising displaced individuals not as victims, but as people with strength, dignity, and lived experiences. This collaboration underscores the importance of solidarity and the need for meaningful dialogue around migration and refugee rights. This collaboration is a meaningful milestone for us — using art and craft as tools for awareness and solidarity. Thank you to Michelle, Kazem, and everyone involved for creating space to reflect, connect, and keep these conversations going. #LesvosSolidarity #SafePassageBags #PutYourFeetInMyShoes #UpcycledWithPurpose #IndependentsBiennial #RefugeeRights #SolidarityInAction

Just got me blue passport! Feel a new sense of purpose and belonging, thanks Nigel! Did you know that the British passport has only existed for 110 years? That Britain colonised the world without passports? That Marco Polo travelled the Silk Road without a passport? So it’s clearly alright for some to travel without documents!! If passports are such a new concept why can’t we imagine a world with free movement? #noborders #safepassage #passportcover #passport #brexit #brexitmemesbrexit
