So grateful to be making prints with the amazing team at Awaaz Studio in India as the Gitler & ____ International Resident. I’ve been experimenting with combining drypoint intaglio and monotypes, painting directly onto scratched copper plates before running them through the press—something I’ve never done before. It’s challenging but really exciting! A huge thank you to Shaik Azghar Ali & Soghra Khurasani @awaazstudioindia and the team @gitlerand for making all of this possible.

I’ll be doing an artist talk March 25 at the Faculty of Fine Arts Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda auditorium at 11:30 a.m. I visited the MSU campus and studios 16 years ago, it’s such a pleasure to return to share my work. Excited to be returning to India after 16 years! Some of you may know that in 2010 I travelled over 10,000 kilometres across India by motorcycle, an experience that deeply shaped my art practice. This time, I’m trading the bike for the printing press, working with the team @awaazstudioindia in Baroda. Grateful to @gitlerand for organizing and making this project possible. Looking forward to sharing the journey. Image 1: In the studio, 2025. Pleased to share that my painting Big Pink has joined the Werklund Centre’s art collection. @werklundcentre Formerly known as Arts Commons, the Werklund Centre is undergoing a massive transformation that will make it Western Canada’s largest arts centre—a meeting place for music, visual art, dance, and theatre. The painting was inspired by the old pink building near Woodstock, NY, where Dylan and The Band recorded, and which inspired the revolutionary album Music from Big Pink. In 2018, while motorcycling across the United States, I came upon Big Pink. Here’s an excerpt from my piece Through the States: “West to Woodstock. I went to a flea market and happened to ask a man if he knew if Big Pink still existed. “Hey Marg”, he yelled over to another market stand. “Where’s Big Pink?” ....“Who?” she replied. “No, Big Pink, the house, you know, Bob Dylan, the Band, where they recorded the basement tapes!” She yelled the address over. I wrote it down, bought three vintage postcards, thanked him and rode out to find it along the country road that I’d imagined. The path in my mind. The warm summer air and cool breeze below the trees, the Triumph motor in perfect timing. I turned onto an old dirt road and between trees, opening up like a dream, was Big Pink. It was July 2nd and unbeknownst to me, it was exactly 50 years to the day that the album ‘Music from Big Pink’ had been released.” Music from Big Pink, 2018, oil on canvas, 72 x 96 inches Thank you! @alexsarian ❤️ @vivianemehr

🎥 Video Tour | Erik Olson: In the Garden Hear all about In the Garden from artist Erik Olson — on view until February 15, 2026 Formally, Olson deploys the visual language of landscape—tree lines, paved paths, and open skies. Colour functions with intent: sharp contrasts, radiant hues, and atmospheric light evoke a world that feels vivid and surreal. Scale and perspective place the viewer on uncertain ground—never fully inside the scene, nor fully outside it. We stand on the brink of the garden’s illusion, where every path leads inward as well as outward. The works reflect the complexities we bring into them. The garden becomes a site of reckoning—a space where internal landscapes are externalized and where desire, unease, and recollection shift and merge. Curated by Kanika Anand.
