Come if you can. 6 original one-act plays, who won their programme spot at the Maurice Patterson Festival at The Arden Theatre, Faversham, Fri 8 & Sat 9 May, 7:30pm.
Iām honoured to be part of a play by the talented Hazel Stevens aka @hjs77824 , commemorating the Battle of Bossenden Wood, 31 May 1838. Itās an often overlooked but poignant piece of local history, āthe last battle on English soilā, that has a lot to say to us today about division, anger, opportunism and exploitation.
Tickets £10 from ardentheatre.org.uk
Ten years ago I was living behind a locked door in my own house. I could go out at certain times, but I couldnāt leave altogether as there would be unfathomable consequences, and not just for me. I couldnāt get any official help as there was none to be had, and trying only brought fresh horrors.
I had a lock put on the spare room door - well, my dad came and did it (lock up your daughters) - as the only protection from some of the things I was dealing with. The door was strong, but I could still hear things said to me from the other side, and the floorboards creaking at night when someone was hovering there. This lasted two years.
During this time I wrote a great deal, usually on the notes in my phone, as a way of staying strong and staying⦠me. Iāve shared a few of them occasionally, but I feel like I want it out there now. So hereās one of them š.
I wouldnāt always write literally about my situation. It was about exploring my inner state to know that while I had no freedom or dignity under those circumstances - while I was often petrified with no clear way out - I was not conquered. Not yet.

Proud to lend my skills to A Million Acts of Hope in Kent. AMAOH is a national festival this May, celebrating actions of connectedness and care in our communities.
The idea is to show that while narratives of division tend to grab the news, thereās another story - quieter maybe, but more profound and enduring, of all the kindness, friendship and support that brings us together.
Some of the UKās most-loved charities are already taking part, along with social organisations. faith groups, local businesses and more. It already looks to be the largest coalition of civil society for one cause - and individuals can get involved too.
Organise or join an event, or support online by sharing the message - every action matters.
You can also sign the biggest ever Thank You card, addressed to all the wonderful people and groups who give their time to make our lives better, and more hopeful.
If youād like to put hope back on the map, the link is in my bio. And follow @1mactsofhope and @1mactsofhopekent for more updates.
