A few months after her mother’s passing, she was in Senegal, focusing on writing, wonder, and wellness. I’m so excited to share I’ve been accepted to Aspen Summer Words Retreat 2024 (June 23-28). 🥳💛 Recognized as one of the nation’s top literary gatherings, Summer Words is a six-day celebration of words, stories, and ideas held annually in Snowmass Village, CO. I received a full scholarship for the program, which includes a week of literary panels, meals and a Poetry Workshop with theee Mahogany L. Browne. 🤩This retreat is at the perfect time because the workshop is around writing while grieving. For the past few months, I’ve had the joy of working with poet Anastacia-Reneé (@anastaciarenee5 ) as part of her “Far Out: The Poet’s Mixed Tape” workshop, presented through @cavecanempoets . Finding inspiration in the mixed tape, we’ve focused on deconstructing and experimenting with various poetic devices. I miss my mother so much. I’m thankful for all of her. When she transitioned a year ago today, I’d see her each time I’d catch my reflection. It was jarring to me then, but now it comforts me deeply. I’m thankful to have spent so many moments with her on the planet, and we are forever tethered. I’m honored to have dedicated myself to granting each of her last wishes. She taught me to choose joy and to chase it if need be. For much of my adult life, she lived with cancer. I mean LIVED, loved, traveled, laughed... She’d tell you all about her and then tell you about yourself. She taught me to be gracious and unapologetic. She’s the only person who’s ever made me speechless, but for her, I have endless words. New art, poetry, joy, and light to share with you soon!🧚🏾✨
