THE KABSAT COLLECTION
MARIA SOFIA SHANE MAR JHANE -SIBLINGS
This collection, called Kabsat, is an Ilocano term for “siblings.
” Growing up, Kabsat always
wished for siblings and would ask her parents for them on every birthday because she was
an only child, living surrounded by rice fields and farms. She was friendly, and all her
friends saw her as their Kabsat (sibling); even now, she remains that kind of person. The
idea behind this collection is to give the image of siblings dressing up for the special events
in their lives.
The fusion bridal wear evokes the vibe of my province and the traditional weddings held
there, particularly those set in picturesque farm landscapes. Imagine a wedding
ceremony adorned with lush greenery, rustic wooden arches, and golden fields swaying
in the breeze, capturing the warmth and simplicity of rural life. You can feel the
happiness through dance, music, emotions, tears of joy, and the intricate fabric designs
like pleating, draping, and more.
This collection connects to family farming by using indigenous materials and techniques
such as smocking and so on. The design and vision of this collection aim to elevate the
provincial bridal wear and gowns, blending it with this generation’s fashion trends.
The Kabsat Collection
The garments are fusion bridal wear with a twist of avant-garde and couture. They
incorporate various textile techniques and fabric manipulations, such as draping,
pleating, and smocking, all in an elegant color palette. This collection strikes a balance
between tradition and modernity, creating a visual statement that captures the
attention of those who see and wear it, while evoking the serenity and romance of
weddings celebrated amidst farm settings.
