BELTANE BLESSINGS FROM THE ARTEMIS COMMUNITY! Yesterday we gathered in West Philly to make flower crowns and be gay and merry around a maypole. This holiday marks the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice and is yet another portal, when the veil between our world and spirit world is thin. May Day is also International Worker's Day and a fab time to weave together our magical activism in community! We charged our ribbons with powerful wishes for world peace, a healthy and just transition from capitalism into solidarity economies, and a swift and effective working class revolution. Then we wove them together around the may pole (quite seamlessly this year, yay growth!), because our magic is stronger when we combine our powers! GROM WAS THE BOMB (again)!! GROM (aka "Gay Prom") is our annual Artemis Kids *ONLY* space to celebrate our queer magic through one big gay party. We normally host this at the close of our school year program, to kick off Pride Month in *style*. This year, we hosted it early in true prom szn, and it was a crazy, wild, queer time had by all! Having safe, affirming spaces for young people to feel PROUD of their queerness is so important. GROM gives the young people in our community a chance to determine was "fancy" feels like for them, and the outfits were EPIC. This space invites our community to really soak in how FUN it is to be queer, and how beautiful it is to let our freak flags fly high. Thank you @emily_jk and Ryan for hosting yet another BANGER for the gays and ghouls. DJ Party Dude, we love you forever. @k1ng.baby is truly MVP for helping me from start to finish, making sure this space was so special for the kids. And thank the gods for @_daughter_of_water and @lil_mxx_understood for all the love and magic they bring into the mix. 🔮🦑🌈 Another FUNdraiser Success🔮🦑🌈 We had so much FUN last night at our annual fundraiser, and we exceeded our goal for the night and are almost two-thirds of the way to our Spring Fundraising needs! Thank you so much to everyone who showed up and threw down with us, and especially thank you to all the volunteers who made it run so smoothly. Thank you @themonthlyfund and @triple.ayyy and @weaveofweb for providing the sweet beats for us to activate our *pure queer joy* to! And a HUGE shoutout to @selinaesther for showing the incredible work of art that is "Daughter of Sea" and inviting us into our ancestral magic. It is always so magical when things align in ways we could never plan. Yesterday, the Artemis kids helped me introduce Artemis Pack and wanted to teach some songs. A Cherry Pack member led us in a song we love to sing to rivers, and we shared how we notice how much the water responds to our song, that the Nature spirits are waiting for us to re-member how to respect and love them genuinely. This was such a wonderful lead-up to Selina's film, which follows the story of a young woman returning to Puerto Rico and connecting with her ancestral magic through Yemaya, goddess of the sea. Selina shared that while filming the scenes with music by the ocean, the waves became SO huge that it was actually unsafe to get in the water that day! We are SO proud to offer a space where we can re-member the rites, rituals, and ceremonies that connect us genuinely to Nature, and to do this through a queer lens. This work is so magical, and especially during a time when there are such blatant attacks on queer and trans youth accessing care, we are SO honored to provide this queer sanctuary for young people in Philly. Proof I’ve always been a wild magical weirdo (and my sister has always been the practical one??). I’ve gotten so much feedback from my peers when I share about Artemis Pack that they wish they had a space like that. In many ways, Artemis Pack is my attempt to create the space I wish I had as a young person. Taking on this program has pulled most of my creative energy for the last two years, and as I am settling into the swing of things, I am so delighted to offer a space for my peers to plug into the magic of Artemis Pack, too! If you’re craving more space to explore your magic, learn about queer mythology and ecology, and celebrate your inner child with other weirdos in Philly, Inner Kid Coven is for you! Offered in four, unique five-week long sessions, Inner Kid Coven invites us to explore the elements (fire, water, earth, air) plus the fifth sacred thing (magic!) that weaves them all together. You can register for one session at a time, or opt in to all four at a discounted rate!
