A little transcription Tuesday of Branford Marsalis on “Swingin’ at the Haven” from a live gig at the Vanguard in 1989. So much good stuff in here but the real prize is his phrasing! One more from @dromnyc ! Here’s a solo over the Bird composition “Klactoveedsedstene”. I was feeling good about this one but I really do need to work on pacing and phrasing better. It’s hard not to get excited playing at these fast tempos. Played the gig in the midst of a migraine so it’s kind of like if the MJ flu game was an opener gig for like 8 people. Lol anyways one day I’ll learn to pace my solos

As I celebrate the conclusion of my formal education, I’d like to go back and reminisce on some really cool moments from my past 2 years in NYC. 1. *Most* of the NYU Jazz Masters graduates. I love you all 2. Sitting in w/ the Jonny King Trio at Mezzrow (feat. Dezron Douglas and Billy Drummond! 3. The quartet featured on part of my (hopefully releasing eventually) first record. Thank you all for your hard work. 4. Playing with my brothers in ARAGA at Williamsburg Music Center. 5. A shot from a very cold evening in Flatbush, right outside Anything. A typical evening with my jazz family. 6. An intro to a ballad on a gig with Dezron, Jonny, and Craig Weinrib. 7. The disciples of the one and only Tivon Pennicott. 8. The ARAGA Quintet in Costa Rica! 9. A late night out in the rain w/ most of ARAGA. 10. A solo over “You Were You” by my good friend Arnie during the debut of the ASMR Jazz Orchestra. 11. The NYU Wayne Shorter Ensemble in Panama. I wish I could thank each and every one of my friends, acquaintances, and mentors. I want to be here in NYC for a very, very long time.

Small appreciation post to show some gratitude towards the friends and colleagues I’ve made throughout this past year in NYC, as well as some longtime friends. I wish I had pictures of everybody. Let’s continue making music for years to come.
