De Jazz Gems 2026 zijn bekend! 🎺 Chaerin Im, Alistair Payne, Nina Rompa en JUNYA: vier uitzonderlijke jazztalenten, vier unieke visies en vier concerten tijdens het Grachtenfestival die je niet mag missen!  In de concertserie Jazz Gems, een samenwerking tussen het Grachtenfestival en de Keep an Eye Foundation, krijgen zij carte blanche om hun muzikale droom tot leven te brengen. Next week is the last one of 2025, but certainly not least... Coming Wednesday, our stage at nomono will be graced by the trumpety whispers of Alistair Payne and the crackling electronics of Chaerin Im. This new powerduo will send you into the christmas holiday on a flying carpet of interweaving melodies and textures... Unusually, this session does not take place on the last wednesday of the month, beware! As usual, playtime 2030 and pay what you can.

Hello ether! It crossed my mind recently that I've spent a significant amount of time behind a set of speakers or a spaghetti of cables or twiddling the knobs on a compressor and such but I have never made any effort to actually tell you all that I do this, and enjoy this and would perhaps like to do it a bit more. This, in this case, is recording, mixing and mastering. So here, look; I made a playlist highlighting some of the records I've been lucky enough to be a part of in a production role. (Sometimes also a playing role). In order to distract you from the shameless self-promotion, I'd just like to mention that everyone on this playlist is a freaking gem, and the music is poppin' so go have a listen. Yesterday was the try-out of the North Sea Jazz Composition Project at @lantarenvenster . And tomorrow it’s REALLY happening: after a period of writing in a remote forest cabin, tweaking and arranging, the final result will be heard tomorrow at North Sea Jazz. We can’t wait! Big waypoint reached with the studio; Subfloor done, wall and ceiling frames done, window frames done, insulation in, Inner struts mounted, triple layer of plaster done on the walls and the ceiling. Last leg of the ceiling was sweaty af I'm basically dead now. Big thanks to #HansKoomans from the Tracking Room Amsterdam for all the wisdom and guidance. Gisteravond is in het programma Round Midnight met Benjamin Herman de winnaar van een Edison Jazz 2024 in de categorie Nieuwkomer bekendgemaakt: Alistair Payne – REFLEX: Live at Bimhuis. De jury over dit album: Alistair Payne is een prominente naam binnen de nieuwe golf van de Nederlandse jazz. De in Schotland geboren trompettist staat bekend om zijn uitgesproken, verhalende trompettoon, out-of-the-box creativiteit en diversiteit aan projecten. Naast zijn solowerk maakt hij deel uit van verschillende bands, zoals Sun-Mi Hong Quintet, Brainteaser Orchestra, Guy Salamon Group en Tineke Postma Quartet. Inmiddels won hij de Dutch Jazz Competition met het Sun-Mi Hong Quintet en Keep an Eye The Records met Molino en Guy Salomon Group. Het BIMHUIS nodigde hem uit nieuw werk te schrijven voor project REFLEX, waarin muzikanten hun visie geven op de tijdgeest. Het album REFLEX: Live at Bimhuis, is het fascinerende resultaat, niet in het minst door de inspirerende samenwerking met Tongo Eisen-Martin, schrijver, activist en stadsdichter van Chicago. Payne heeft zijn teksten, ritmes en energie gebruikt als uitgangspunt voor de composities en weet deze met zijn loepzuivere toon, krachtig neer te zetten. Tevens hoor je invloeden van Arvö Part en Madlib, afgewisseld met experimenten in (a)tonaliteit en stilte. De ritmische structuur van de woorden roepen herkenning op uit de hiphop en worden gedragen door, oa, de lyrische vocalises van Marta Arpini, het virtuoze toetsenwerk van Floris Kappeyne en expressieve slagwerk van Payne's partner Sun-Mi Hong. Dit alles komt samen in een prachtig, narratief album dat urgentie uitstraalt en ook de drang om te experimenteren en uitdrukking te geven aan het moment. Vanavond wordt op NPO Soul & Jazz tussen 23:00 en 00:00 de winnaar bekendgemaakt in de categorie Global. #AFASEdisons #EdisonJazz #EdisonJazz2024
