I was invited to respond to the performance art archives @7a11d and chose to revisit the work of Michael Fernandes. Michael is one of those rare teachers who guides us, through surprise and intuition, to be open to possibility. To be in conversation with his work feels like a perpetual and sometimes challenging reorientation towards presence. On today's episode (FE6.6 - Landings), we’ve got something a little different for you: something a little less in the sciences, and a little more in the humanities — in the realm of language and human experience.
Today, through a series of conversations, we’re exploring the notion of what it means to have a relationship to land, to be or not be of a place (in other words, to belong or not) and how the intrinsic tensions in all that may be metabolized through the practice of art, and more importantly, of life.
Our co-producer and interlocutor is Darby Bradford. Our guests are Jordan Abel, S F Ho, and Cecily Nicholson.

@manuelaxelstrain has a beautiful show up at @richmondartgallerybc right now. I will be bringing some scented materials to the gallery on Sunday in response to the exhibition. Hope 2 cu there 💐
Last days to see @drivinginpalestine at @vinesartsociety . Honoured to witness the relationships, learning, and solidarity that emerged from this important exhibition. Thank you @rehabnazzal for bringing your work to these territories. Show closes Aug 30th!
Join us June 22nd at 2pm for a matinee poetry reading. What better time to indulge in poetry and books than on a Sunday afternoon?
You’ve seen George, The Parasite written by S F Ho in the shop, now come see @_acertainparty read from new work. CALYX is an experimental prose piece that plays with themes of negation and vacillates between two voices—one based on an East Asian notion of emptiness, and another that articulates refusal or despair.
Joining them will be A Jamali Rad. @y2k_was_an_inside_job will be reading from No Signal No Noise which is a speculative/ materialist history of Zero both as number and concept. The work is part of a larger project concerning the origin of the binary and ideologies that follow from its historical trajectory.

Held on the anniversary weekend of the Nakba, and in conjunction with the exhibition “Gaza Remains the Story”, this film program pairs two films that explore the constancy and disruption of home through narratives that move through rooms, walls, familial gatherings and history. While Wisam Al Jafari’s light-hearted short film Ambience (2020) follows two musicians searching for silence inside a noisy refugee camp, Kamal Aljafari’s elegant early film The Roof (2007) navigates the physical, psychic and emotional landscapes of his parents’ and grandparents’ homes in Ramle and Jaffa.
Hosted by From the River to the Sea, a global collective initiative of displaced media artists and activists in solidarity with Palestine, Al Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition (Vancouver chapter), The Palestinian Cultural Society of BC, and MENA Film Festival.

“Disclosure, towards liberation” invites the reader to critique and engage with “the question of Palestine, [in all of] its moral, political, and spiritual significance” from artists, architects, writers, poets, researchers, and activists. The issue assembles the energy of the global activism over the past year and a half in support of Palestinian liberation, and in turn, asks the reader to take action for a free and compassionate world.
