Join us on Thursday 4 September, 6-8PM, for On Trans Embodiment: Reclaiming Queer Martyrdom and Trans Saints with Kasra Jalilipour and M Lissoni.
Part of our Art/Work Association programme, this session will begin with a conversation between Kasra and M, exploring transmasculine iconographies, experiences of religious ecstasy, and how personal archives and exhibition-making can challenge institutional faith.
In the second half, participants will join a collaborative workshop with Kasra and M, helping bring two of the artists’ works to life through reflection and creative exploration.
Kasra will lead ‘What Is a Prayer?’, a spoken ritual that functions as both an act of devotion and a gesture of subversion, created through reading together, voice by voice, line by line. Following this, M will invite participants to join ‘The Trans Bible’, a collaborative process of authorship through erasure, where fragments of a book are marked and removed to remake its meaning collectively.
This event is free to attend and will be held at Auto Italia. To register, follow the link in our bio.

At the opening of Et Gaultier Créa l’Homme in Paris, wearing on my chest an ex-voto in the shape of breasts from a personal family collection of votive offerings. A nod, reinvention, and disruption of Gaultier’s iconic S/S 2007 look.
Ex-votos are devotional offerings, usually left in chapels as prayers for healing illness and body parts. I own a leg, a hand, lungs, eyes, and a baby. I only miss one kidney.
It’s the last day to catch Art & The Book at the warburg institute tomorrow, and we’ll be there on site as part of their bookshop residency programme! Featuring: the very best in publishing-as-art-object from studio holder and Forma friend M Lissoni and their publishing platform STIGMATA.

MARTYROLOGY: limited edition
M’s stunning edition ‘Martyrology’ is displayed as part of the exhibition; visit us in the library of exile space after the show to have a flick through a copy or buy your own.
Martyrology is a five year long research project tracing parallels between Renaissance Catholic paintings of martyrdom and scenes from Western horror cinema, questioning iconography and body politics. From the performative rituals of tradition all the way to contemporary gender theory, queer narratives of desire and trans politics. Martyology contains five printed artefacts collected inside a custom designed screen printed folder.

RESEARCH FILES N. 1: THE SCAR AS ARCHIVE
The inaugural issue of Research Files, The Scar as Archive, explores concepts of marginalised flesh from a cultural, historical, political and personal perspective. By examining the marginalised body as an archive, this journal explores the tools and methods for preserving embodied knowledge and memory for the future. Through performance art, trans embodiment, religious ecstasy, the subversion of Catholic iconography, and autoethnography, it invites 18 contemporary artists and writers to reflect on the complexities of identity and the potential for reclamation.
Unbound, Embossed softcover, Hand numbered, Edition of 300, 2024.

Saint Sebastian, 2021
From my ongoing series Martyrology, a project that has taken many forms: beginning as a visual essay, then a small, intimate book, evolving into sculptural works, performances, lectures, and artist editions over the years.
The latest iteration was exhibited in Paris this June as part of a show held at Jean Paul Gaultier HQ. Saint Sebastian was shown in conversation with works by other artists resonating with the legacy of @jeanpaulgaultier , exploring themes of sexuality and the nuances of queer masculinities.
Installation views from the premiere of Educastration at @formaartsmedia , January 2025.
The first iteration of this body of work was shown as video screening and installation.
Sound by the brilliant Engin Eskici @dj_baklava , a long-time collaborator and talented musician whose contribution deeply shaped the atmosphere of the piece.
Grateful to everyone for the space, trust, and support in bringing this to life.
