Hey Friends!
Very excited to share we have finished tracking, Album 5 for Fat Produce. Now you might be saying to yourself, Duff, you only have two albums up on streaming, and you would be right. Addison and I have been busy working on a lineup of three records that as they pass into the world will make plenty of sense. I've shared our record we did in San Francisco with Producer Michael Reed, or our Colab with Low-fi wizard Tiny Blips, to now a brand-new 11-song album. All I can say is the work we have done has been exciting to build from the ground up with these collaborators, and getting back to our roots with Addison and me hashing out 11 songs in the studio for this upcoming record.
The fall and new year will be filled with gems, so please stay tuned. I want to thank our collaborators, Michael Reed for his insight, patience, and commitment to getting it right and improving us, his lessons have changed us. Tiny Blips for his calm and focused way and pushing experiments and pushing us into new territory with a focus I've not experienced in my years in the studio.
To our bassist, Goopy Rossi for being a champion and riding the lightning on our west coast adventures, your depth and insight to crafting an arrangement has really helped us grow, Brian Tate, The Big Cat in sound and vibe a true Miami legend, and one hell of a pocket what a pleasure it was to create with you and build out our depth of groove, and lastly Vince Dupont, The young lion with a heart of gold, touch, tone, attack, and a mind for helping push Fat Produce into 5.0 mode, your focus and talent definitely leveled up our game.
Lastly, I have to thank Travis Acker, A.K.A, BIG TEE there is no Fat Produce building into the future without your name in it, thank you for your insight, patience, and time, Love you, Hoss!!
F-Spot and DMC, The Boss, and a believer in this project from day 1. I've always appreciated you being open to the vision Addison and I share, thank you for the trust and belief in Soul Jazz music, Love you, Boss Man.
Ok friends my gratitude plate is full and if you got this far, thanks for reading.
Love
Duff

In the great state of Texas today enjoying some much-needed time with my mentor and serious bad ass, Dr. Robert Patterson. I owe so much to this man for being a rock and a great teacher in my life for several decades.
The most prideful Texan I have ever met, an amazing medical doctor, a killing sambista and the director of Austin Samba for two decades. He's the definition of keep Austin weird. I can go on and on.
So today we headed out east to, Llano TX to Cooper's BBQ to get it in, We had a great conversation and to me some of the best BBQ central Texas has to offer. It was an epic day with one of my favorite people in the whole world at our favorite meeting place.
If you know him you know, Love Ya, Robert.

New group alert!!
In 2019 Jason Colby (Trumpet, Lee Fields and Ikebe Shakedown) Sam ”Forro” Robles (Sax, Jungle Fire, Cozmos) and I got in a room in LA and started plotting a vision for a quartet, a mix of straight-ahead jazz, soul jazz, and Caribbean elements. We knew we wanted a fourth but were stuck on an option until we landed on an organist. Some ideas were shared and we got together a couple of times, but life and touring got in the way. I moved from LA to Miami, and while I was here, both Jason and Sam rolled through Miami to play shows. We hung out, talked old times, and mentioned hey remember when we tried this. Fast forward to early September 2025. I reached out to Jason to start the process of what would become, Red Pyramids. We looped Sam in the mix and Jason suggested we use a young organist, Eric Bell (The Alton) who he was playing with around LA. Thanks to my brother Steve Haney who connected me with a gig in San Deigo and Sam set up a recording session out in San Diego as well, We had a goal.
Now I can say with confidence this is for real and music is on the way and I could not be more thrilled to get this up and running with this fine group of musicians.
Please follow @redpyramidsmusic
Cheers

Today marks 10 years for The White Blinds Organ Trio. On this day, we took our first steps onto the stage at Mambos Cafe. We were excited about what we were building and the support we had within our LA music community. So many friends came out, and supporters showed up for this first launch and continued to support us as we played many more shows across California. This would lead to joining the roster of F-Spot Records and dropping our first album in 2018 entiled “Get to Steppin,” a phrase my mother used a ton in my early years when I was not on my best behavior, it obviously stuck. Our debut was not even cooled out, and we jumped right back in the studio to bang out a 3-part 45 Homage series, both album and 45’s made in Venice, CA at Bombillas Bassist, Josh Weiner's studio, Rich Uncle, a magical space I'm so glad we got to create in. I miss it so much, but, like all things good, it comes to an end. Then a year later, so did the band. With LA shot down by Covid, we sheltered in place, having random conversations about making another album, writing a couple of Jamaican-inspired songs with our producer friend Blake Collie from The Night Owls, and finally getting back in the studio. This time it would be at The F-Spot HQ in Boyle Heights CA with some killer songs and our hommie Adam Walker behind the camera documenting what would become album two, entitled “PRESHEATECHA” a saying I heard all the time while I was living in Austin, TX, before I relocated back to LA, again, some things just stick with you. This album is a push forward in all lanes, and to me, a fine follow-up to “Get to Stepping.” Life took us in all different directions when this album dropped, mainly myself deciding to relocated to Miami to chase a dream. So now, as a unit, we are in a state of quiet. I hope we will play at some point, and when that happens, I hope our fanbase will join us in LA for that ride. But until then, stream our tunes, turn your friends on to our albums, and if all goes well, we will be back performing together at some point soon. Much love to my brothers Matt and Carey for putting in the work. And to David, for helping me complete the vision and your trust
Cheers
Duffy

Man, I love playing funky brushes!
Here is a nice clip of me recording new music for my trio, Fat Produce, for our latest album. It was great to work with producer and great Bay Area drummer Michael Reed at his studio in Richmond, CA. Man, he has some great drums and cymbals, and I got to borrow and use a killer selection of Michael's drum and cymbal collection for this record, and man, I was in heaven.
I'm using the Vic Firth heritage brushes and Bop Works west coast model sticks on this album, and honestly, I've used these sticks and brushes on all the Fat Produce albums; drums change, but I always have my trusty Aquarian Texture Coated or American Vintage drum heads on the drums to achieve my sound.
Cheers to the folks who help make the drum heads, sticks, and brushes. You all are a source of inspiration for me.
Thank You!!
