“Masak, Macak, Manak” (2024)
“Masak, Macak, Manak” in Javanese, means “to cook, to dress up, and to give birth to.” These are ancient traditional beliefs that have been passed down for generations, dictate how women should act and behave, often hindering their pursuit of greater aspirations, preventing them from aiming higher for their futures. To stay home where they are queens, yet at the same time, prisoners for some.
We present these Trophy Women with a blend of reverence and irony, questioning whether society truly values them beyond these narrow confines. This contrast between what we know and the new highlights coloring the fight for acknowledgment and empowerment.
