@authordanielhandler and I had an amazing time at the #booksforbreakfast fundraiser for @826boston early the morning. Thank you, 826 Boston and the Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute for everything you do to amplify student voices! #bigfoot
“The comfort of being Vietnamese and American makes me feel special.” 🇻🇳🇺🇸
In her poem “A Doorway Between,” Angelina D., from 826 Valencia, discusses the duality of her American and Vietnamese identities, and how she is proud to embrace both. At 826, our writing programs give opportunities for students to explore their cultural heritage and share their full selves in published work like this. ⭐ We are honored to create spaces for their creative expression!
As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for student writing centering AAPI stories throughout the month of May. 📝
Did you know? There are over 3,500 children and youth living in the Tenderloin, the highest concentration of young people in any neighborhood in San Francisco. 💛
At our neighbors 826 Valencia, DMA students became “big buddies” to pre-k friends from Wu-Yee Childcare Center. They read their poetry out loud while the little ones illustrated each piece in their own way. Moments like this matter!
In a neighborhood where young people are navigating so much, spaces for creativity, connection, and joy are everything. 🥹✨

Nour has been serving students in San Francisco as a BAYAC Member placed with 826 Valencia. Through her AmeriCorps journey she looks forward to gaining more skills as an educator and to exploring new strategies for the teaching of language and writing in a non-profit setting. She has always admired 826 Valencia’s programs for instilling in young people a sense of pride in their voices and writing skills. We are thrilled to see her excel there and grow as a leader!
Join us for the De Marillac Academy x 826 Valencia anthology release 🎉
These are the stories shaping the future ✨

Shayla has been an amazing AmeriCorps Member serving with 826 Valencia in San Francisco this year! She is a huge advocate of youth and puts it best when she shares why she wanted to do a year of service with BAYAC: “I am passionate about working with youth because they inspire me to do my best and give my best work. I learn from them how to listen better, to notice, to open up my perspectives, to be curious and to play. They push me to give my best effort in order to see the growth from them, and it is worth the effort to see their growth and ability change over time as a fulfilling and remarkable endeavor. It is a gift to be able to teach our future leaders.”🧡💙
