Cinematic Short — Shot on iPhone
I’ve wanted to make a cinematic short with my buddy Jonathan Seavey for a long time. Not to manufacture a moment—but to frame one honestly.
The idea was simple: use cinematic language to highlight Jonathan’s athleticism, precision with a rifle, and the atmosphere of an outdoor range—shot almost entirely on an iPhone. A few extreme close-ups called for a true zoom lens and the FX3, but everything else was about working within limits and letting my direction do the heavy lifting.
One of my favorite parts of the process was layering passages from Rudyard Kipling’s “If” with an intense PremiumBeat score and sound design. The poetry added weight.

For me, this wasn’t about proving what an iPhone can do (though it certainly surprised me) – it was about mixing the right ingredients for the story and subject.

On the range with @geeae85 and @joelbasco for their inaugural Pistol Dynamics class 🔫📚
It’s been a while since I’ve caught up with these old friends. I remember years ago a group of us went to the range with Joel for our friend’s bachelor party. Their, Joel taught me about recoil anticipation by giving me an unloaded firearm (which I believed to be loaded) and waited to see me flinch during my trigger pull. I’ll never forget that valuable shooting lesson as well as how profesh Joel was when giving such a simple demonstration that felt empowering, not humiliating.
Super proud of these guys and all the men who were on the range that day to learn and grow. This community is growing.
