Well, that was a pretty incredible day... Another day overcoming adversities. My 1st ever marathon, I had a time I wanted to achieve to be able to consider it a success for me however I also just wanted to finish and was determined not to quit, no matter how tough it got. Today was about trying to give hope to people in the same/similar situations to me, and raising money for an amazing charity. I said in my video, every 2 minutes someone becomes paralysed in the UK, but it’s actually every 2 hours. There are currently over 150,000 people in the UK living with spinal cord injuries, so if today inspired any of them, it was a worth every mile. Unfortunately, one of the biggest unseen downsides to many spinal cord injuries, including mine, is the impact on normal bodily functions like going to the toilet normally. Any warning sign, is basically my body telling me, you’ve got to ‘go’ and you’ve got to ‘go’ NOW... For me, today that timing wasn’t ideal at all and my worst nightmare, the one thing I feared, came true, it happened with a number 2 basically happening whilst running, sorry for the detail but it is what it is. I stopped at the toilets 10 miles in, to clean myself up, and then got back to it. Even with the toilet stop, I finished in 4 hours and 5 minutes. I really wanted to go sub 4 hours, and who knows probably would have done, but it is what it is. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that’s donated sponsorship money to such a great cause
@spinalresearch and to thank those guys for getting me a place in the marathon in the first place, it’s been a bloody emotional day, from temporarily paralysed after my accident however many years ago that was now to my worst nightmare and a totally degrading accident during an iconic race like the
@londonmarathon the bottom line is I finished it. Congratulations to all the finishers today, I have a new find level of respect for all of you!!! What a day!!!
