Project Concept:
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industrial sectors. And, over the years, its exploitation has cast a long shadow over the world.
Today, clothing is consumed rather than cherished. Stories are lost and details overlooked as trends rapidly shift from one to another. Ultimately, many of the garments produced end up in countries like Nigeria, Angola, and Senegal, decaying on beaches and releasing toxic fumes into the environment.
For this project, I decided to explore Yoruba spirituality and create my own interpretation of how Yemanya—mother of humanity and Orisà—would manifest in the current state of the world.
The garments reflects the impact of modern humans on our planet and are designed to evoke a sense of urgency in the audience.

WINTER JACKET PROTOTYPE
Made from deadstock & upcycled leather, semi-fitted jacket, fully lined and filled, multiple functional pockets, straight collar that can fold on itself for a minimal look, hooks and strap in the back for additional attachments.
Average sewing time: 30-35 hours
Patternmaking time: 12-15 hours

Top: Cropped boubou bomber jacket made with 100% cotton twill camo fabric. The fabric is hand painted with brush strokes to give a stained finishing.
Bottom: Long oversized shorts made with 100% cotton twill camo fabric.

« FC SA-MÈRE » CAPSULE COLLECTION
As a cultural minority in France, you constantly feel like your citizenship is conditional, as if you’re only regarded as a true French when you accomplish something. Every other day, you’re just a piece of thrash that no one wants, a « racaille ».
The first time I saw individuals from different origins come together was when the French football team won the World Cup in 2018; it seemed like everyone was genuinely French.
Not only that, but the majority of the French soccer team members that year were second-generation immigrants who grew up in impoverished areas.

These incidents inspired us to create an imitation PSG football squad that is full of non-white skinheads in order to draw attention to the irony of French culture and its fake meritocracy.
