Yki Nummi Table lamp, 1955 Stockmann-Orno, Finland 39.7 x 28.6 cm / 15 x 11 in In the postwar era, lighting was predominantly made of metal. Acrylic was new, untested, and largely absent from interiors. A true experiment in material and perception, this lamp was highly innovative for its time. Its lightweight transparent cylinder and detachable opal shade created the illusion of light hovering in space. Now held in the permanent collection of New York’s MoMA. Contact us for sales or inquiries.

Juliette Teste @___juliette___ is a contemporary ceramicist based in Paris. Whether from Chinese culture or the aesthetic of Greek ruins, Teste amalgamates different forms and influences, often instinctively and playfully. This results in striking, experimental forms that are filled with historical allusions and yet unrestrained by formal conventions. Shown above: ‘Asarotos Oikos’, 2021. Glazed stoneware clay. Wheel-thrown, oxydation fired. Unique piece. This piece was inspired by the asàrotos òikos mosaic or the ‘unswept floor’ that decorated the floor of the dining room of the Aventine Hill Roman villa in the second century B.C. The original mosaic, created with small debris of glass and coloured marble illustrated crustaceans shells and bones found in Roman banquets. Kindly contact info@491projects for sales enquiries.
