@bludetiger musician for vol 27
My name is Blu DeTiger (yes, thats my real name). I’m an artist, singer-songwriter, bassist, producer, and DJ. I started playing the bass guitar when I was 7. It became the way I made sense of myself and the world around me. Bass can be subtle or commanding, supportive or completely magnetic. It has the power to shift the whole feeling of a song and make people move without realizing why. I’ve toured with different artists since high school and started DJing in NYC when I was 17. I would bring my bass with me to DJ sets and shred on top of the songs.
A lot of what’s happened in my career still feels surreal to me, because it all started from something so genuine—just me loving bass and wanting to share that passion with people. I’ve gotten to release a lot of music that means a lot to me. I’ve been able to bring that music to life on multiple sold-out headline tours, festival stages like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Gov Ball, Lollapalooza, and on the road opening for artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Bleachers, and Jungle. I’ve also had the chance to work with artists/musicians I really admire, including Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, Dominic Fike, Caroline Polacheck, Jon batiste and more. I’ve gotten the chance to play SNL with Jack Antonoff and Bleachers, a very cool NYC kid moment for me.
I was on the cover of Forbes 30U30 for music, and became the first woman and youngest person ever to have a signature bass with Fender.
Lately I’ve been drawn to music that feels fun, sexy, free, and groove-driven, pulling from disco, funk, soul, and boogie records that feel human and timeless. Long term, I want to keep growing into an artist with real staying power. I want to create a world around my music that feels distinct and unmistakably mine. I also want to keep building BOUNCE, the underground pop-up ping pong tournament event series that I started along with my brother Rex and friend Giullian. It captures something I’m really excited by-the intersection of sport, music, nightlife, style, and community.
