📝Meet José Ortiz-Pagán, a recent recipient of the prestigious Pew Arts Grant. He learned the news on an otherwise ordinary day. While shopping with his family at Walmart, he checked his phone and found an email announcing that he was one of just 12 Philadelphia artists selected to receive $85,000 in unrestricted funding. The moment felt so surreal that he spent nearly half an hour wandering the aisles in disbelief. Ortiz-Pagán has long been involved with community organizations such as Taller Puertorriqueño and Fleisher Art Memorial, grounding both his artistic and spiritual practice in communities like Fairhill and Kensington. His work has been featured in major exhibitions including the San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial, the Taiwan International Print Biennial, the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial, and his solo exhibition “Umbral” at the Berman Museum.

A Turning Point for Latino Rights Advocacy in Philadelphia PA 🏽🚀 On April 25th, the Latino community gathered for a historic milestone: PODER: A Call to Latino Action. This event was more than a call to mobilization; it marked the official inauguration of LULAC Philadelphia, PA. The data is clear: more than 185,000 Latinos have joined our community since 2020. However, as the discussions demonstrated, growth is only the starting point. Our collective challenge lies in transforming those numbers into lasting influence and systemic change. 2Puntos was honored to lead within this dialogue during the panel: “From Awareness to Action: Organizing for Electoral Participation and Community Power.” Moderated by Emma Restrepo, the conversation featured: Jasmine Rivera (Executive Director, Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition) Adamary Sosa, M.Ed (Co-founder, Puerto Rican Professionals Network) William Garcia (Director of Latino Engagement, City of Philadelphia) The event also featured a second vital panel, “Economic and Community Impact,” moderated by Jessenia de Moya and featuring Jennifer Rodriguez (GPHCC). It was a privilege to have leaders such as Danilo Burgos, @Quetzy Lozada, and @Ramon Palomares in attendance, standing in support of this new chapter in advocacy. A special thank you to Mari Gonzalez for her vision and for bringing such high levels of energy, empowerment, and hope to our community. Congratulations on this historic launch! #LULACPhilly #LatinoPoder #2puntos 2PuntosPlatform is a hyperlocal Philadelphia media outlet covering important issues for the Latine community thanks to the support of People’s Media Fund 📝 2PuntosPlatform 📸 @oxymor.on

📝@luisafernanda_1018 🎨@luisafernanda_1018

How much do you really know about Latine history in the U.S.? Most of us weren’t taught this. Latine communities and institutions like @tallerpr have been shaping Philly, and this country, for over a century. And even earlier, the city served as a bridge between the U.S. and Latin America during the independence era. Leaders like Simón Bolívar studied revolutionary ideas in the U.S., while generations of Caribbean, Central, and South American communities built the cultural, economic, and civic fabric of the city we know today. As we approach the nation’s 250th anniversary, learning about #LatineHistory is about more than recognizing the past; it’s about power, identity, and claiming whose stories get told. At 2 Puntos Platform, we were proud to be part of the panel “Diversity in Media: Rewriting the Narrative for a New Era” at the WHYY News Civic Summit. It was a meaningful opportunity to share our work as a hyperlocal Philadelphia media outlet reporting on and uplifting voices from our Latine community. Spaces like this reinforce the importance of community-centered journalism and the responsibility we carry as storytellers. Thank you to the organizers, fellow panelists, and our community for continuing to support and engage with our work. ¡Gracias! 📝@nemesismora 📷 @oxymor.on 🎥@luisafernanda_1018

“In mid-2006, Clara Olivares became a bodega owner in South Philadelphia. Today, she owns EC Food Market in West Philadelphia, and feels a deep mix of pride and nostalgia for the hard work and long hours she has invested in being a bodeguera for nearly 20 years. When her two children were young, Olivares ran the grocery store with her husband. Looking back, she admits, “We lacked that quality time we should have devoted more to them.” Even though the family always lived just steps from the store — either upstairs or across the street — her children still resent the time their mother dedicated to the business while they were growing up.” - @nemesismora for @2puntosplatform , @metrophilly , @phljournocollab

“We searched for papi stores in Philly… and The Papi Store PHL was the first thing that popped up.” That’s how this all started. A journalist from Metro Philly found us while researching bodegas… and ended up sitting down with us to understand what’s really going on inside the store. From a freestyle… to a platform… to being found on Google. This how it grows. 🎥 #ThePapiStore #Philly #Bodega #HipHopCulture #CreativeSpace

Running a bodega has always been hard work with long hours behind the counter. It’s also been a way many Latinos, including lots with roots in the Dominican Republic, have made a living. @2puntosplatform and @metrophilly introduce us to the people behind the counter and those trying to surprise their customers with something new, maybe even a podcast recording right there in the aisle.

Philadelphia’s bodegas carry a cultural legacy shaped by sacrifice, pride, and survival. Generations of bodega owners often say that younger generations aren’t willing to take on the hard work required to run one. At 2 Puntos Platform, we’ve seen that many young people are carrying on the bodega legacy in their own way. Concepts like The Papi Store PHL are helping redefine what a modern bodega can be. Together, Victor Andrés and Profit have reimagined the bodega as a creative economic hub. The foundation of the bodega legacy remains strong, but its economic structures are now shaped by creativity and a renewed desire to build community in new ways.
