"The mural is a reflection of Detroit Techno as a living frequency—built in basements, broadcast through airwaves, and carried across generations into a global language of sound. Emerging from the pulse of Detroit Techno, the work traces the evolution of rhythm, from analog machines and early transmissions to digital futures and boundless cosmic expansion. Speakers rise as monuments, cables stretch like circuitry through the city, and sound moves as an ecosystem that's alive, adaptive, and shared. Rooted in movement and repetition, the mural echoes the dance floor as a site of connection, where time dissolves and community forms through vibration. Playful and immersive, it imagines Detroit as both the origin and a transmitter that continuously shapes how the world listens, gathers, and moves. We teamed up with @paxahau and @spotlitedetroit to help launch @jeff_mills_official "Star Chronicle” — a mind-expanding exhibition that took place on September 10 - September 13 2025 on space, consciousness and the futures we’re spiraling toward.
The environment Jeff imagined was “a setting where most of the light in the space would come from one powerful source. Such a large light that it creates the light and dark side of most things in the space – including people. The imputation of a radiant source. Something present, alive and almost omnipresent like a Star or our own Sun. And as this source would be from only one position so that shadows would naturally be cast, especially during the night time hours.”
Powered by production assistance from Trophy, the Spot Lite space was transformed into a temple for interdimensional ascension. Custom display cases and a 6’ neon-tube spiral were crafted by Detroit artisans and installed by Mills and the Trophy team to achieve the artist’s spatial vision.
Jeff Mills is a pioneering force in techno whose work moves between music, contemporary art, film, design, and science fiction. Rising from Detroit’s early scene as The Wizard and a founding member of Underground Resistance, he has spent decades expanding his practice through Axis Records and multidisciplinary collaborations.
Mills has scored films like Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, presented exhibitions in major institutions worldwide, and became the first DJ to perform with classical orchestras, creating works such as Blue Potential, The Planets, and Lost in Space. His projects Spiral Deluxe and Tomorrow Comes The Harvest further explore electronic jazz and global rhythms.
Honored by the French Ministry of Culture, Mills continues to push the boundaries of sound, imagination, and futurist art.

"When thinking about Allen Park’s small-town charm and strong sense of community, I wanted to create something that feels warm, welcoming, and full of life. I spent several afternoons walking around downtown Allen Park, looking for repeating motifs and capturing photos to help with the ideation stage. The nostalgic feel of the city's architecture alongside the lush greenery and lovely summer light created an intangible essence that felt like a good start.
"This design follows a day-in-the-life feel — from planting together in the garden, to relaxing on the porch, to sharing time at a local coffee shop. Each moment is tied together by the glow of sunlight and vibrant color, symbolizing a bright future and the strength that comes from working and growing together. It’s meant to feel familiar, like a shared memory, and reflect the walkability of Allen park, something that kept resurfacing when designing for this mural." –Ivan Montoya

This past summer, we had the pleasure of collaborating with @swfreddy and @kintsugivillagedetroit on a mural at their brand new childhood education center in Corktown.
The inspiration centered around themes of joy, community, and youth while paying homage to the neighborhood's rich history.

Today at noon (EST), 1XRUN drops new original artwork from South African artist, @ryan_shava_rytel from his themed series titled “Head”.
‘I created the Head Series as a way to explore the many layers of identity and emotion we carry within us. In this series, I draw from Cubism’s fractured forms and shifting perspectives, breaking the human head into angular planes that reveal more than a straightforward portrait ever could. The faces I paint are not just likenesses—they are landscapes of feeling, thought, and memory, each one alive with color, texture, and movement.
Working in mixed media allows me to merge chaos and structure, to layer meaning the way life layers experience. These heads are not static; they are constantly reassembling themselves, just like we are. Through this work, I’m asking viewers to sit with complexity—to find beauty in fragments, and to see the wholeness that exists within what is broken.’ - Ryan Shava
