“Reading Logs: Readings of the City” is a documentation of reading walks through Halle (Saale) from September 2022 to September 2023. Focusing on its textual dimension, the readings explore the city as an assemblage of different voices that both represents and structures political and social relations of a given space: political claims, state instructions, individual desires and collective struggles. The readings recalibrate textual hierarchies within public space while appropriating its grammar and vocabulary and arranges them in a manuscript calling to be read and re-read. supervised by @andrea.tinnes and @marcus_wachter at @burgtypo

“Reading Log #1: Readings of Collected Texts on Reading …” is a reading tour through the research material gathered for this project. Following Michel de Certeaus notion of reading as subvertingly drifting through an imposed order, the tour appropriates and undermines the academic language and discourse around the subject of reading as a productive and transformative practice. The topics range from psychogeography of public space over neurolinguistics of reading to discussions about the spectrality and potentiality of language as a site of social struggle and desire. In its typographic form, the reading log also serves as a playful and poetic index to the collected texts. supervised by @andrea.tinnes and @marcus_wachter at @burgtypo #graphicdesign #typography #timesnewroman #type

“Reading Operations for a Common Poetics” serve as starting points for drifting through textual spaces—e.g. books, comment sections or cities. The 300+ operations refer to the material properties, grammatical structures, pragmatic use and social contexts of text and language. Challenging the assumed stability of a text, exploring the intertextual intersections and the ambiguous construction sites of meaning, the outcome of a reading is not a map of represented ideas or knowledge, but rather a reading log, a history book of just one reading experience among many others not-yet realised. supervised by @andrea.tinnes and @marcus_wachter at @burgtypo

from the archive: 💧 “gonte am vegonte | gonten is ponding” publication with and for marc norbert hörler @_marcnorbert_ 💧 the publication is a speculative and poetic meditation on water and the different containers it flows through serving as a carrier bag for stories and knowledges. the text itself is performing the confluence of different streams of thought and languages that flow together and create different densities and intensities. a scent diffused in the exhibition space adds to the aqueous speculations and poetics of the flowing ecologies invoked. 💧 concept, text, scent: marc norbert hörler typography: lucas kramer 💧 part of the exhibition: remixing: brunnen, öffentlichkeit und andere geschichten at auto ex nextex, st. gallen in october – november 2020

FEAR / HOPE – two sides of the same scarf Life in its complexity comes with daily struggles. The pandemic has reinforced these quotidian battles for many people. In their polarity, fear and hope are two emotional states that have shaped and complicated a sense of continuity within the ongoing restrictions. This is also relevant for people who have already been struggling with mental health. Being amongst the latter has impacted my creative output for a long time, and still does. However, creativity has also allowed me to gradually find new paths and methods of expression and thereby doing work that has not only revealed new approaches to my practice, but ultimately improved my mental health. One of them being designing this scarf that illustrates this ambiguous and tense dynamic. In sharing this particular project with you, I’m excited to make visible a process that I’m sure many of you can relate to. Please feel welcome to have a talk and turn this platform into a space of support rather than competition. Speaking of support: You can buy this scarf and its profits will be donated to the Berliner Förderverein für psychisch kranke Kinder und Jugendliche e.V. and their crowdfunding campaign “Psychisch kranken Kindern & Jugendlichen Hoffnung schenken” (en: “giving hope to children suffering from mental illness”). The donations will help to finance a creative and artistic summer camp for the kids offering workshops such as creative writing, designing architectural models, singing and songwriting with the goal of finding joy and expression through creative exploration and social experiences. (link in bio) The price of the scarf is 25 € excluding shipping. at this price production costs and donation are balanced. If you want and can spend more, you are welcome to increase the donation. Sending you some love out there, take care & see you soon! lucas FEAR / HOPE 145 x 17 cm, acrylic. edition of 20 25€ (minimum price) + shipping orders via dm professional leg model in first picture & photo/videographer: @_marcnorbert_ #mentalhealth #typography #typedesign #typescarf #graphicdesign
