Whilst you enjoy the days activities, please do remember to stay safe.
1. Take precautions when travelling late at night in Lagos.
2.Be careful where you eat and what you eat. Just because a Hausa man is grilling meat on an open fire doesn't mean it's suya & safe to eat.
3. Trauma is one of the biggest causes of admission to hospital in Nigeria. Stay safe. Don't drink & drive. Avoid speeding - Nigerian roads are poorly lit & full of bumps. Keep an eye out for daredevil okadas (motorbikes) when crossing roads.
4. This may seem obvious but keep your valuables hidden. This applies anywhere in the world you may be.
5. Traveller's diarrhoea is very common as your bowels adapt to the change in diet. Drink plenty to replace losses. If it continues for over 5 days or you notice blood in your stools/urine, seek medical attention.
6. Avoid swimming in freshwater lakes & ponds or anywhere that is not a clean chlorinated swimming pool. From schistosomiasis to leptospirosis, there's too many infections that can be caught from water exposure. Don't let that be the story of your Christmas holidays.
7. Don't forget to have fun! Try something new & create lasting memories. You only live once. Carpe diem!
