In a house besieged lived a man and a woman. From where they cowered in the kitchen the man and woman heard small explosions. “The wind,” said the woman. “Hunters,” said the man. “The rain,” said the woman. “The army,” said the man. The woman wanted to go home, but she was already home, there in the middle of the country in a house besieged.
In a House Besieged by Lydia Davis
“The film is the talking. The film is the thing. So you go see the film. The film is the whole thing, that is it.” - David Lynch
To explain a language of colour and abstraction can feel absurd. The paintings in this exhibition come from many different places; often from a place of not knowing, of searching for something. They relate to landscape, but perhaps not to a specific location. They are joyful, at a time when joy seems out of reach. And they are about freeing oneself from the limits of language.
