Made 100% for the benefit of VE’s daughter…the one he never got to meet after gun violence took his life in an UNSOLVED murder.
Mid 90’s All City run…..VE • GIZ • SN Triple fire escapes on the Bowery. High up. Wide open. Super visible.
Back then bombing was different. Risk was real. Stakes were higher…jail, violence, life on the line…as his murder reflects. That was a spot that couldn’t be missed. Anyone heading downtown to the clubs saw it.
The Bowery wasn’t what it is now. No hotels. No fancy food. Just Chinese restaurant supply warehouses and empty blocks. Still rough. Still raw. Still the old Bowery.
That building’s gone now, but part of VE’s fill ran over 30 years.
Bottom right corner of the fire escape VE leans out and drops one last fill on the next building because he couldn’t resist.
That final move that night that is stamped on the back of this shirt.

June 8, 1997. Bushwick.VE gets shot while writing graffiti. One bullet. Case never solved.
He left behind a daughter he never met. She’s 28 now. Three kids of her own. They look just like him.
EVERY DOLLAR FROM THIS SHIRT GOES TO HER.
This release is about VE, but it’s also about that era. The risks writers took. The city we lived in. How unforgiving NYC really was. You could just be walking down the street and somebody looks at you and says what are you looking at? And then boom violence.
It brings so much joy to my heart that his name is still ringing. Never would we have thought that we would be in a song by Nas and DJ Premier.
This project only happened because people that stepped up. Writers. Friends. Supporters.

The final 12-12-12 of the year is live. “Paper Chasers.” Easy theme to pick, but a hard reality to escape. No doubt everybody felt it this year. Costs up. Margins thin. Pressure from every direction. Everybody’s running after something these days. Likes, clout, opportunity, stability, or just whatever keeps the lights on and the noise down. Funny how the world keeps shifting, but the chase never does.
