Y'all have asked me how we got the effect of the track listing on her face and on her dress for the album cover & promo shots. NOT AI! You know i don't play with that. It's... wait for it... PROJECTION.
I've used projectors on shoots in the past, but this was by far the most creative I've ever gotten with it. And it was so fucking gratifying for it to work so beautifully.
When we hopped on the phone for the first time to chat concept, one idea we had was writing the track list of the EP on her face with paint. I'd never seen that done before! @aldenichols , our incredible HMUA, was ready go with supplies. But as the shoot day snuck up, I pitched the idea of using a projector instead. I realized it would give us more control, being able to adjust words as needed as we changed angles and lighting. Everyone was down. And what made that idea even cooler is that I was able to use Quill's own handwriting.
I had her send me each track name in her handwriting the night before the shoot, and pulled them all into photo shop to create a basic design for projecting. (Perks of als being a graphic designer 💃.) Then on the shoot was able to isolate each song title to get really precise about placement. This meant that for cohesion we were also able to just project one word at a time on different parts of her body that she was able to use for single releases leading up to the full album! Then at the end of the shoot I was easily able to switch the text from white to black and rearrange onto her dress. Sick discovery.
In all my years of shooting artists, I don't think I've ever seen someone work so hard or want it more. Or milk every last asset I gave them from our photo and video shoots and use it all in the most epic of ways. This is what you call a dream shoot and a dream client (now friend 🥹.) Quill is the epitome of "ARTIST." As real, genuine, truthful, & passionate as they come. Follow & support her now. I promise she's going big big places. Badass of the century!

Nashville is famous for its songwriter rounds, and IYKYK offers an equivalent experience for audiences who love the movement arts: aerial arts, flow arts, burlesque, drag, and more. The show series will feature a rotating cast performing in an intimate setting, offering an up-close view into the artistic process.
This show’s theme is SPRING EQUINOX so don a spring-inspired look and help us create an immersive art installation in this beautiful studio!

I photographed this album cover for “The King’s Court” by Joe Bryson in Nashville!
I met @averagejoebryson in 2021 not long after he moved to Nashville. We’ve collaborated on several releases in the past as his artistry gained more traction. So, it meant a lot when he called on me to photograph the cover for the album as well as other marketing assists for its release. The album is here now and it’s a fantastic record. Joe fits perfectly into this unique pocket of genres as his music blends southern rock, soul and country. He calls it “kitchen-sink country”
Joe is signed to @spiritmusicgroup out of Nashville, TN. He is originally from Cajun country in South Louisiana. He faced, and beat, Stage 3 thyroid cancer. He has a lot of depth to draw on as a songwriter and performer.

Here’s a peek behind the scenes & some of the results from my shoot with @jordynmallory | Played around with these little flashing light-up wands I found a while back. Used them in my long exposure process and got some pretty cool color streaks out of them. Love the black & white hat shot tho!
