'ASCII Space Experiments'
Slides from my talk at the Typozone /6/ conference: an event that explores typography not as a fixed form, but as an evolving, sensitive, and responsive medium, where the boundaries between writing and the living world begin to blur.
+ the following videos introduce several artworks from the accompanying exhibition, created by participating international artists around the themes of "typobiomimetics" and "technomorphism".
A written version of the talk will be available online soon
Thank you @media_design_eger@afrajanos and Faa Balázs for your kind invitation, had a great time over the event
Glad to have ‘DR1FT’ showcased at OFFF Festival @offfest this past week in Barcelona, as part of Generative Dialogues III.
This artwork belongs to an ongoing series of experiments focusing on low-level features of images — an ontological investigation into shapes and patterns that emerge at the edges of representation, where devices strain against their own limitations. These are the thresholds where sensors and screens begin to fail, giving rise to unexpected artefacts: moiré effects, drifting interference patterns and other visual anomalies.
At the same time, the work evokes the logic of weaving: its strict grid, repetitive structures, and interlacing rhythms recall the aesthetics of square weaves within textiles, which can be seen as precursors to pixel-based representations. In this sense, the piece draws a line between ancient material practices and digital image-making, revealing how both rely on the ordered entanglement of discrete units — whether threads or pixels — to construct complex surfaces and patterns.
Generative Dialogues III brings together a diverse constellation of algorithmic systems. Emerging from different technologies and approaches, each work offers a distinct perspective — opening windows into alternative design methodologies. Together, they form a dialogue between code and form, where variation becomes language and computation unfolds as a continuous source of inspiration.
Special thanks to Xavier Hernandez for organizing the event and capturing the photos, kudos to The Generative Art Museum @tgamxyz for the curation

M3MP%L (excerpt)
Text based audiovisual composition that represents associative space. The interface becomes a mental blueprint, where each character defines an imaginary position in space.
The title refers to the mempool (short for memory pool) which is a temporary holding area for transactions that have been broadcast to a blockchain network but have not yet been confirmed and added to a block.

Binary loops, bouncing pixels
Working with individual pixels as autonomous entities. Movements, patterns, and shifting connections emerge within the low-resolution LED grid space, generated through repetitive computational processes.
By synchronizing these algorithms with sound, the system transforms visual changes into audible events and evolving sonic textures.

Creating a 3D buffer (shown top-right) and displaying its brightness values on a grid of ASCII characters. Since the font is based on variable width letters instead of being monospace, the render warps and takes on a melting appearance.
While the distortion is intentional here, it usually happens accidentally during early experimentations within my projects.
Always a delightful surprise!!
