CHASING GOATS
The goats fighting fires in Portugal
Just a few days ago, we are speeding through winding roads in the north of Portugal. We are here to find goats. Goats that have superpowers. In this region goats are used to prevent wild fires. They only have to do what they do anyways: eating small plants and shrubs, which burn exceptionally well and spread fires quickly. Portugal is ravaged by forest fires like almost no other country in Europe.
It's getting darker by the minute, and darkness is always a pity when filming documentary style. When we finally see the animals, right before the light is completely gone, we jump out of the cars and run onto the road. I am feeling happy, excited. We chased the goats - and we did it. The animals are only meters away from us. Together with the goatherdess.
