This piece is very close to my heart.
The “Free Congo” embroidery is to honor my roots, my father is Congolese, and even though I’ve never been there YET, I feel deeply connected to this land and its people.
The Congo and Africa in general, carry so much beauty, strength and culture, a continent full of creativity, love, and endless inspiration. It’s the beginning of everything. The heart of the world. And yet, too often, its stories and struggles are left in the shadows.
But honestly, it’s starting to hurt and to anger me. For decades, Congo has been suffering from wars, corruption, exploitation and the world just looks away as if it’s normal because “it’s Africa.” It’s not normal.
We’re tired. The Congolese and African diaspora are waking up or at least, I truly hope we are. It’s time to rise, to speak louder and to scream if we have to.
This project is still growing in my mind. I don’t want it to be just about fashion, I want it to have meaning, to give back in some way, to create something that truly supports the Congolese people and shines a light on what deserves to be seen.
It’s also a small tribute to my dad, who had to leave his country but never lost his love for it. Through this project, I want to carry a part of that love forward.

NDOKI.
In Lingala, ndoki is commonly translated as “witch.”
In many communities, it refers to someone believed to use spiritual or invisible forces, often in a harmful way. The word carries fear, accusation, and heavy social weight.
During colonization and Christian evangelization, African spiritual systems were broadly labeled as evil, which deepened the association between « ndoki » and something purely satanic.
But traditionally, the idea behind it is more complex.
It relates to unseen forces, spiritual knowledge, power beyond the visible world, not automatically good or evil, but potent.
With these little characters, I’m not denying the word’s weight.
I’m exploring its complexity. Beyond.
Not about harm. But reclaiming mystery, legacy, and invisible energy.
