Prowadzi interdyscyplinarne projekty badawcze z zakresu projektowania krojów pisma. Do zobaczenia!

🌟 Today, I’m excited to share a sneak peek of how Flo works in different scripts! Please keep in mind that this is not a finished typeface; it’s a student project and my first attempt at Arabic. Flo Arabic was designed as part of the Flo Family, which focuses on early learning for reading and writing. #FloTypeface #ArabicTypography #TypeDesign #StudentProject #GraphicDesign #EarlyLearning #ArabicScript #TypefaceDesign #CreativeProcess #LearningToRead #DesignInspiration #matd

Flo Script: A Revolutionary Handwriting Typeface for Early Education in Poland Flo Script is a new handwriting typeface that aims to revolutionise early education in Poland. Designed by a passionate typographer, educator, and mother of schoolchildren, Flo addresses the pressing problem of ineffective handwriting models and the disconnect between reading and writing in Polish elementary schools. With its unique features and progressive learning approach, Flo promises to make the journey of learning to write and read more accessible and enjoyable for young learners, including those with learning difficulties. The design process began with collecting and documenting all variants of handwritten letters from different handwriting models and traditions. From these, the simplest and most logically constructed letters were selected and tested by writing words in both Polish and English. Flo Script is a flexible handwriting model that accommodates the diverse needs of both right- and left-handers through a special set of strokes. Letterforms that were found to be misleading for dyslexic learners were abandoned, and similar letters were differentiated. Artificial connections and ornate capitals were dropped in favour of functionality and legibility. As a progressive learning experience, Flo Script starts with print script, where letters do not join but feature continuous, easy-to-write constructions. It then progresses to a fully cursive model or a mix that allows groups of letters to join while also permitting breaks to write diacritics or reposition the hand. Overall, Flo is designed to serve as an excellent starting point for developing functional, mature, and individualised handwriting. #typedesign #scripttypeface #handwriting #handwritingmodel #earlylearning #literacyaquisition #Polish #education

I am happy to share a sneak peak of my MATD project – Flo Type Family. ––– Carefully crafted for early learners, the Flo typeface family draws inspiration from contemporary handwriting models and Rosemary Sassoon's research, bridging the gap between writing and reading. Designed with Polish primary education reform in mind, it's also suitable for Europe and the Americas. Flo's key features include an italic construction with a slight slant towards the reading direction, curved yet decisive stroke endings, and concave stems. Its open counters and prominent diacritics enhance legibility. Designed to accommodate individuals with learning difficulties, Flo's letter shapes for commonly misrecognized characters are distinct enough to prevent confusion for children with dyslexia. Additionally, it incorporates outstrokes, serifs, and generous spacing to separate letters and prevent word jams. Filling the market gap for inclusive and educational typefaces, Flo presents a family of four styles: Script, Elementary, Sans, and Serif. Its familiar warmth makes it ideal for short stories, poems, and songs, while its legible and efficient design brings a professional yet welcoming touch to educational materials. #typedesign #handwriting #cursive #writing #friendlyeducation #education #matd #graduationproject #easyreadingfont #childrenbooks

The exhibition showcasing the work of Expert class Type design (EcTd) students from 2023 and 2024 is now prepared and will be open to the public from July 2 to August 25, 2024, at the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp. An original edition of Abraham Ortelius’ „Theatrum orbis terrarum,” printed by the Officina Plantiniana in 1595, which served as my primary source, is displayed alongside my two panels. This rare atlas, considered one of the most significant cartographic works of the 16th century, provides valuable context for the information presented in my exhibit. #typefacedesign #typerevival #granjon #robertgranjon #matrices #punches #antwerp #plantijn #plantinmoretus #ectd #plantininstituteoftypography #exhibition

I had the pleasure of being a student in the 2022/23 Expert Type Design class at the Plantin Institute of Typography at the Plantin Moretus Museum in Antwerp. Under the watchful eye of Frank E. Blockland, I developed a type revival project – Ortelius. My sources were: - a book "Théâtre de l'Univers" (French edition) printed in Antwerp in 1587 by Christophe Plantin - and Robert Granjon's matrices and punches of Ascendonica Romain from the Plantin Museum collection. This year of careful study of various source materials was a good prelude to a year in Reading. As there was no exhibition last year, our group will present together with this year's cohort. The exhibition will be open from 2 July to 25 August 2024 at the Plantin Museum in Antwerp. Many thanks to Frank and my fellow students for a great year of collaborative workshops. #typefacedesign #typerevival #granjon #robertgranjon #matrices #punches #antwerp #plantijn #plantinmoretus #ectd #plantininstituteoftypography
