The 1Ocean team from Zooreach presented its ongoing works on marine conservation at the Shark International Conference in Sri Lanka, 4-8 May 2026.
Priyanka Iyer (pic 1 & 2), the 1Ocean program head, gave a talk on our efforts in building relationships with fishing communities for bottom-up shark conservation measures, its importance, and how it helps.
@priyanka_zooreach
Usha Ravindra (pic 3 & 4), 1Ocean researcher, gave a talk on outcomes of the 1Ocean citizen science work and how such a student-led monitoring of marine landings, trade etc. could be an effective monitoring tool.

The 1Ocean team also has a strong education and outreach e-learning portal called Magic of the Ocean that targets educators and kids.
It makes us proud that we have made good progress with such a small team, timeframe, and limited funding. A long long way to go, but we have begun our journey. And at Shark International 2030, we hope to have more 1Ocean team members presenting their progress on shark conservation in India.
