Hey loves,
Zoe Terakes here.
Starting March 23rd, I’ll be swimming 21km in 21 days to raise $21,000 for my friend Belal Salama
@belalsalamagaza in Gaza.
It costs around $7,000 AUD per person to cross the Rafah Crossing. That money also covers travel, temporary rent, and the first semester of education.
$21k means Belal, his sister, and his brother can cross the Rafah Crossing safely **WHEN it opens, and begin imagining a life beyond evading death.
I know times are rough. Everything is expensive. People’s resources are sparse. But if you can skip a coffee or two, buy a friend a donation for their birthday, or move some money from somewhere else, this will go directly to some extraordinarily beautiful people who have spent the last 875 days trying to survive a genocide.
My goal is to ensure Belal receives the full $21,000.
The reason the fundraising goal is a little higher than $21,000 is because 10% of all funds raised will be going to the Mob Strong Fund, who organise and distribute aid to First Nations people here in so-called “Australia.” I send my deepest respect and gratitude to the Traditional Owners of the Land I will be swimming in, Gadigal Country, and recognise that as an active settler in this colony, any solidarity work we do here must also materially support the First Peoples of these Lands.
Alongside the swimming, I have made fundraiser merch that I will be dropping soon - t-shirts, hoodies, caps, etc.
And yes, same rules as last time: anyone who donates $1,000 or more, I will tattoo your name on my foot. As long as your name isn’t N*zi or Balls or something, I’m dead serious.
Alright, that’s all from me. Sending biggest love.
None of us are free until all of us are free.
