Only a World Away has been a central part of my humanitarian work for the past three years. When I first began prototyping the book in those years, I had a few clear intentions: to create something thought provoking, open to interpretation, and ultimately educational.
Throughout the writing process, I wanted the story to do more than just inspire. I wanted it to empower to feel like a guide that readers could return to, each time gaining a new perspective on themselves, the world, their dreams, and their own story.
With that vision, we began distributing these storybooks into underserved communities. Not only to aid the literacy challenges in South Africa, but also to offer something tangible a keepsake for the children. A story they can step into. A reminder that regardless of circumstances, background, or setbacks, simply having the courage to dream will illuminate the path toward unlimited possibilities. It is with a humble heart and gratitude that I am able to share this projects process with you and to finally distribute a consumer ready copy in the coming months. 🌍✨📘
It’s time to briefly revisit the work of NTYTA and discuss the evolution of its years of work, as well as the objectives moving forward. Never Too Young To Advocate aims to be inspired by people for people, and as we continuously grow, we put progressive development and upliftment at the forefront of our actions.
Another special moment from yesterday’s visit at NMCH, sharing a copy of Only A World Away with the community at the hospital with a special note of encouragement. 🌍💕
Smile Week at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital with @smilefoundationsa . 💙 Every Smile Week teaches me something different as I talk to the children and parents about their stories and journey. To hear some of the struggles but also success stories motivates my own resilience. The work Smile does is truly something life-changing, giving these kids a reason to smile every single day.
To those who carry so much and show so much courage, we often forget about them one day like today when we are surrounded by love. Spending time with my brothers and sisters at New Jerusalem Children’s home today reminded me once again of my own privileges—having a mother who instilled qualities of compassion, determination, and strength in me. Happy Mother’s Day; never take the gentle and generous love of a mother for granted.
