Your curators of sound on vinyl for May: resident Jeronimo D. and special guest @__ihx__
Emerging from the shadow of his work in the acclaimed synth project Soft Metals (@metauxmous ), IHX has been building a reputation as one of the LA underground scene’s trusted selectors. Known to many through standout nights and rooms like @dasbunker 's BODY RHYTHM. IHX's sound has been shaped by a deep love of late-70s and early-80s analog synthesis, pulling from early industrial, minimal synth, experimental noise, avant-garde electronics, euro dance, synth-pop, and Italo Disco. The result is a track selection that feels both meticulously curated and instinctively raw...equal parts dancefloor energy and sonic exploration. We’re excited to welcome IHX as this month’s guest at Save The Robots!

Axodry were the 80’s best kept secret of German Synth Pop. It is a stunning fact that the major record companies of the era labeled Moskwa TV as one with ‘commercial’ potential instead. Axodry were formed in Frankfurt, Germany by a synth master Ralf Henrich aka RaHen and a local DJ Andreas Tomalla aka Talla 2XLC. Axodry were a super refined German response to the UK Synth Pop craze of the early 80’s. Synth riffs, melody hooks and eloquent arrangements somehow turned to be a disadvantage as Axodry were overseen by the wider audience for being deemed as one of the ‘dance only’ ZYX purpose acts.
‘You’ was released on ZYX record label in 1988. To this day it is one of the finest European Synth Pop and Dance floor tunes of the 80’s. ‘Razormaid’ rendering of ‘You’ is, also, highly recommended. Dark Entries (USA), and DBH Music (Ger) paid a tribute by releasing ‘You’ in 12” format in 2016 and 2022 respectively.

Pankrti – Novi Punk Val 78–80 (1981, RTV Ljubljana, VA LP · 45 years later)
By 1981, Yugoslav New Wave was already in full motion, but Novi Punk Val 78–80 looked back to the point of ignition. Within this seminal compilation, Pankrti stand as one of the true origin points of the movement and alongside Paraf, among the first Yugoslav punk bands, forming the initial rupture before the scene even had a name.
Like Paraf, Pankrti’s earliest recordings did not immediately reach vinyl. Their debut material had to wait, meaning that when it finally appeared, it arrived in sync with the New Wave explosion rather than ahead of it, even though the band itself had already been active at the very beginning. What this compilation captures is that earlier moment; raw, direct, and already fully formed.
Where many bands would soon shift toward post-punk, art direction, or stylistic refinement, Pankrti held the line. Their sound remained rooted in pure punk rock economy: fast, sharp, confrontational, and unmistakably direct. No reduction into minimalism, no drift into abstraction, just clarity and impact.
Within the context of Novi Punk Val 78–80, their presence anchors the compilation. If Ljubljana would later become associated with conceptual coldness and industrial discipline, Pankrti represent its original strike, immediate, political, and grounded in the raw language of punk.
That commitment didn’t fade, it only intensified. Following Angelic Upstarts’ Yugoslav tour, Brian Hayes was brought in to produce Pesmi sprave (1985), reinforcing Pankrti’s connection to UK street-level punk and pushing their sound further into hard-edged, uncompromising territory.
Forty-five years later, these recordings still hit with the same force. No reinterpretation needed. A document of the moment when punk in Yugoslavia was not influence — but arrival.
Featured track: “Lublana je bulana”
First strike. No dilution.

Problemi – Novi Punk Val 78–80 (1981, RTV Ljubljana, VA LP · 45 years later)
By 1981, Yugoslav New Wave had already taken form, but Novi Punk Val 78–80 preserved the phase before structure — when everything still moved in raw fragments. Within this seminal compilation, Problemi represent one of the most direct and least documented expressions of that early rupture.
Alongside Pankrti, Paraf, Termiti, Prljavo Kazalište, Berlinski Zid, 92, and Buldogi, their appearance situates them firmly inside the first wave. Issued by RTV Ljubljana, the record functions as archive and a confirmation that the sound had already happened before it was formally recognized.
Problemi’s approach is stripped and immediate. No conceptual framing, no stylistic detours, but just pure punk delivery. Fast, sharp, and outward-facing, their sound reflects the earliest form of the movement: communication through impact. Where other bands on the compilation hint at future directions, Problemi stay rooted in the present moment.
What makes their inclusion especially significant is its rarity. These recordings remained their only appearance on vinyl for decades, leaving the band largely undocumented within the official discography of the era. It wasn’t until much later that Rest in Punk Records gathered their material into the LP compilation “Nije po JUS-u,” finally giving shape to a body of work that had long existed on the margins.
The band’s lineage extends forward. Their vocalist, Mario Piuco, was part of the first incarnation of KUD Idijoti, one of the most important and enduring Yugoslav punk forces, connecting this early and fragmentary moment to what would later become a fully formed scene.
Forty-five years later, these tracks still feel immediate and unfiltered. Not expanded, not revisited, just preserved. A document of presence before continuity.
Featured track: “Sranje”
Raw form. No archive. Still intact.

Moskwa TV was a project that initially attracted major labels (CBS took an action on it) and was labeled as one with ‘commercial’ potential, in contrast to Robotiko Rejekto, MCL (MicroChip League), and the best synth pop secret, Axodry. Moskwa TV were formed in Frankfurt, Germany by a synth master Ralf Henrich aka RaHen and a local DJ Andreas Tomalla aka Talla 2XLC. Moskwa TV, were a powerful studio force, with all the catchy synth riff hooks and pop overtones while giving a perfect balance between listening and dance-floor atmosphere. Despite being in a perfect spot between two worlds, inability to chose one or the other, MTV members parted ways due to differences what creative direction this project should take.
‘Generator 7/8’ was released on Westside Music record label, that was a home-base for all initial RaHen and Talla creative outfits.
