(Re)introducing: the zinester directory in map form: zinemap.com/zinesters Did you know you can find zine people on ZineMap? :o You can add yourself as a pin on the map (or multiple pins if you’re connected to more than one place) and tell people what you do in the world of zines! (e.g. are you a zine maker? distro runner? event organizer? researcher?) Fill out your profile, add tags for the zine things you do, and indicate what people can reach out to you for: trades, collabs, stocking requests, etc. Did I say trades? Trades! (I hate to compare it to LinkedIn for zinesters, but if you have a better analogy, please help) Desktop recommended for now for the map browsing experience, because look at all those pins! I was talking to @andromedazines who brought up that privacy could be a concern for this page, and we collectively concluded it’s worth saying clearly: > Please don’t accidentally dox yourself! This is the one part of ZineMap where exact location is NOT recommended. ✨ NEW on ZineMap: Behind the Zine Scenes #5: Fanzineist Vienna Art Book & Zine Fair ✨ Fanzineist Vienna @fanzineistvienna was one of the first things that came up when I started looking into the Vienna zine scene, so I was very happy to get to speak with its founder @deniz.beser for story #5 of Behind the Zine Scenes. We talked about the festival’s beginnings in Istanbul, its current life in Vienna, the incredible amount of work during and outside the festival weekend, and the kind of community that can grow out of a festival like this. ✨ NEW on ZineMap: Planning & Profile Updates Hi people! I’ve been working on a few site updates :) Here’s what’s new: - You can now save pins! Bookmark shops, libraries, or events to come back to later, whether you’re planning a trip, keeping track of places you want to visit, or saving festivals to apply to! - Speaking of festivals, they can now be viewed in calendar format (along with other events)! This came out of a conversation with Luke Sticky @smallzinevolcano and Cora Zon @healesvillezinefair when we chatted ZineMap on ZINE on Yarra Valley FM 99.1. For anyone who tuned in - the calendar is now live! For those who didn’t… did I mention ZineMap was on radio? 😮 - Contributions now have its own tab in user profiles. You can also see your own contributions and their statuses! - New [payout methods] field for shops. When you add a shop to the map, you can now indicate how they pay creators if you’ve worked with them (or if you run one yourself)! (eg. bank transfer, cash pickup, PayPal/Venmo, etc.) The following updates are ~ in progress ~: - Support for recurring events! - Accessibility improvements! - Images in community notes! - Ability to add a poster image to events!
