Azizi Cole: Body Clock
🗓️ Saturday 25 May 2024
⏰ 7:30pm
📍Elgar Concert Hall
Body Clock investigates the idea of composing a piece of music by exploring sounds of the body; using unison, syncopation, and rhythmic techniques to create a live music and physical dance experience. Born out of a research project supported by @operanorth the work has been developed as part of Sounding Change, and receives its first live performance this evening.
A percussionist and composer, @zidrums artistic practice combines experience in both music and dance to create work that is both a visual and audible performance experience using body percussion to compose and choreograph simultaneously.
Performed as a duet by dancers @jacob_luca_edwards and @yuma.sy with music by @zidrums and @eif_soundandmusic Body Clock is a multidisciplinary piece combining music, movement, and the influence that music can have on the body.

Blessed for the life we’ve been given. Blessed for the energy we receive.
Words cannot come close. To journey back to ancestral land, to return to Mother Africa, to come home. Crazy how one week can feel like a split second but also a lifetime.
To the people, animals, insects and plants we met, to the sand, land, sea and sun, to the air we breathed and water we drank. Thank you for welcoming us into your arms in ways I could have never anticipate but will forever appreciate.
@toussainttomove thank you for making this trip an experience that I could have only dreamt of. Let us continue to build and grow together for our community and people ✊🏾
@alesandraseutin_mamavo I’m eternally grateful for all the doors you continue to open for us all. A true gatekeeper and inspiration that gives so effortlessly. #MamaVoToTheWorld
@ecoledessables and all the people that pass through your doors. Memories made and a family gained! I look forward to returning again soon 🤞🏾

Body Clock
Back in March 2022 I was commissioned by Opera North to begin research on my own movement practice as a Choreographer/Composer. ‘Body Clock’ investigates the idea of composing a piece of music based on exploring sounds of the body using unison, syncopation and rhythmic techniques being both a live music and physical dance experience. Performed as a duet ‘Body Clock’ is a multidisciplinary piece combining music and movement to ultimately become one, by researching the relationship and influence that music can have on the body through movement. In the opposite way how can you then use the body as an instrument to compose and become the music as well as the dance?
