A new edition of Zurich Talks Dance brought together artists, students, and audiences for an evening dedicated to exchange between music and dance.
The programme offered a diverse insight into different artistic approaches: BA1 students performed choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, MA students shared their exploration of various creation tools, and Zurich Opera presented a duet from Romeo and Juliet.
The evening opened space for dialogue, reflection, and a closer look at how movement, music, and artistic practice meet on stage.

“When music becomes movement” is the theme of the upcoming edition of „Zurich Talks Dance“. Michael Küster will speak with his guests about the many connections between music and choreography.
Christophe Barwinek will share insights from his musical work with Ballet Zurich. He has been the company’s répétiteur for 30 years. With his artistic expertise, the pianist has become an indispensable advisor for many ballet productions.
Friederike Lampert will explain how she teaches choreography and will present the course “Dance Music Improvisation.”
Samuel Wuersten will present a project from the BA Contemporary Dance program: Acacia Schachte is currently rehearsing a piece by the renowned Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. At Zurich Talks Dance, there will be a preview from Fall, set to music by Arvo Pärt - along with a surprise guest. Psst… it’s Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Ballet director Cathy Marston is currently choreographing Romeo and Juliet. She will speak about her experience working with Sergei Prokofiev’s monumental ballet score. In addition, four weeks ahead of the premiere, a pas de deux from the new choreography will be performed, danced by Max Richter and Lucas van Rensburg.

Mobility & Flexibility in Youth Dancers 🩰
Throwback to an inspiring workshop presented by the International Youth Dancer Health Alliance (IYDHA) and organized by our HEC team – bringing together students and staff from across the entire Dance Department at ZHdK.
After a joint kick-off, all participants split into three groups:
✨ Aesthetics
✨ Hypermobility
✨ Safe Stretching
Ideas were explored, discussed, and developed – then shared with everyone, so all could benefit from each topic. The whole workshop was filled with great energy, lots of learning, and everyone left with something to apply in their own practice.
