And the battered yet valiant heart needed
To slay our dearest of monsters

This was but one of several acts by a coalition of #Firedancer crews at the Arts Alive HumbOlympus event. I had the privilege of organizing, designing, directing & performing in the fire show and very thankful for all the folx who helped put it together and brought their own flame! I hope this show inspired some of those attending to feel empowered to be the divine creators, heroes, etc. in their own lives -

You are invited to Mt HumbOlympus for a gala - come dressed as a god, goddess or nonbinary mythical persona of choice - celebrate with song & dance and stay after dark for our fireshow!
This event will take place Saturday April 4th at Eureka Arts Alive, and was made possible by sponsorship from Eureka Cultural Arts District, a coalition of Wiyot tribe, Eureka Main Street, @inkpeoplecenterforthearts & the city of Eureka. The shows you will see are a collaboration with @ambrzart and multiple performing artists, including firedancers from @spellbound_fire , @circus_of_the_elements and @bellafiredance . This will be our most ambitious & unique fire production yet and I'm so thankful for the team that's making it possible. Come and pay tribute to the divinity within us all! 🔥

- respect, valor, empathy, integrity & charity -
Just words in a void gone numb, yet still they burn
Even when theres nothing left to believe in
No time or space to celebrate the daily grief and
No rhyme or theme to give us daily reason to
be holding it down...
Trust is just a joke of the heart for most But I'm too far gone to give up now
The World is a vampire, yet a handful of sunflowers still got me fighting for air -
Hope for a better world,

A Life seems to happen; uncharted, unseen
A symptom of persistence, pleasantly found no rhythm, no rhyme, no reason, no ground

Though wizened are we, to painful degree: No declaration, no expectation, no mortals 'try'
Holds true beyond sight (to reaper's delight)
of the final storm's eye

So grit and be mettled, and hold on, ere long
Thru the gusts & the rains, & thunderous sound
Of a life lived unduly, unfettered, unbound
Heart engines aflame & wings to the sky,
Divine flow incarnate, in falling we fly 🪽

My flow can be many things, and yes sometimes it is about releasing anger & darkness in a way that does not harm the world around me.

For someone who strives to manifest a world of compassion, radical tolerance & equity, there sure are a lot of people out there who don't like me.
🔥
Whether its for my queerness or neurodivergence, my body or my expression, my preferences or ambitions, my threatening talent or disregard for status quo - for existing any which way really, there is no authentic presence to be had without triggering haters is the sad reality of this world.
I have been betrayed, ignored, forgotten, hazed, screamed at and denied more times than I could count.

And yet, I don't let it turn me bitter & spiteful.
I alchemize and channel and flow; I consciously acknowledge the shadow, theirs and my own and I release it where it cannot do further harm. I accept they may never understand the kindness I do them by not reflecting their mindless spite, nor the complex discipline needed to do so: capturing reactivity and using it to inform mindful response; flowing with what is rather than forcing outcomes; building on wisdom through empathic experience

Peace is more akin to a whirlpool than a still pond,
Chaos is endless and life never stops changing. But if we were to learn to change with it, to move in alignment with our higher virtues while embracing entropy, to hold accountable & give grace in fair balance, steady as the stone yet radical as the storm... what could we do with that fiery energy instead?
