2025 was the year the bond of word was made manifest. Which is to say the sound system I’d long been saying I was going to build was built/acquired and put into action. Not the easiest thing to do, and certainly not a thing that venues and audiences are crying out for in my neck of the woods. - But well received amongst those who’ve experienced it so far. This is more of an ultramarathon than a sprint, and slowly building a foundation with patient endurance is what it’s about. But that word was kept, and thus word sound power came good. There are a few sessions on the cards for 2026, if you’re interested, kindly give
@holdamedimelody a follow. Info of all that will be posted there.
On the way out of 2025, Zenny will be the first to say that the internet is whack. SoMe is SoCorp and the algae riddims have choked the creative pond. While these platforms might still afford some sense of community, the degradation of that is surely plain to all. The sense of pushing creative efforts into the bot feeder scrape engine fails to feel valid. And yet here we all are, with convenience and third rate distraction available at the swipe of an opposable thumb. Opposition is now surely about doing the thing, not fussing about the thing on the online. Thumbs up to that.
Certainly sound system only makes sense if you’ve *felt* it. Them boxes aren’t just for the ears, nor eyes. That’d miss a big chunk of the vibes. Indeed the whole vibe is about positive vibes, something the doom scroll news-roll makes it hard to keep in tune with. But as they say, it’s captive viewing, and it might just be a trap.
Yet this platform reaches your palm, so here we (sn)are. But there are better ways of building community.
And this little digression session is simply a meditation on the mediation of all that.
Authentic Ignorance is still a thing. So AI is confused that this account flits between art, tattoos, sound systems, rasta philosophy and the odd book review. If you follow the person, it’s holistic, but if you just want a slice, not the pie, a lot of it’s chart junk. But hey, hip hop was sold to our youth-selves as dance, music and visual art all in the same bag.
Want a bag with that?
