We often treat maps, systems, and games as neutral tools but they aren’t. Every map is a choice. Every system highlights some things while hiding others. And those choices quietly shape how we see the world and what we believe is possible.

We build laboratories to find out what’s true, what happens, and what works. We built a world for the same reason. Five years later, it has its own languages, its own injustices, and its own excuses. As it turns out, some ideas need weather and food and customs before they can be made to compete with each other.
As you read this e-book, a few names will sound familiar. Let them be new. Many words will be strange. Let them stay strange for a while. You will meet them again, and they will greet you as old friends.

This year, MAYA took its first real steps.
What began as questions and conversations slowly turned into plans, drafts, debates, long days, late nights, events, and moments of clarity. This video brings together the thinking, the process, the people, and the many hands that shaped MAYA into what it is today.
Every conversation mattered.
Every experiment taught us something.
Every person who showed up made our world richer.
This is us looking back with gratitude and forward with curiosity.
There’s still so much left to build, explore, and imagine.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
This is only the beginning.

Polymath filmmaker Anand Gandhi and visionary game designer Zain Memon came together to conclude this year’s MOG Sunday sessions with an introduction to MAYA, an expansive narrative universe that unfolds across films, games, graphic novels, novels, toys, and immersive experiences.
The conversation began not with the project itself, but with more fundamental inquiries into the nature of the world we inhabit and how we understand and construct values and fundamental truths. Through carefully framed premises, Gandhi and Memon encouraged the audience to reconsider the universe through a more nuanced lens, returning to first-principle thinking as a way of understanding reality and, consequently, of telling stories that are intellectually rigorous and ethically grounded.
They then traced the conceptual journey behind building MAYA, speaking to their desire to reach diverse audiences across the globe through media that genuinely belong to the people who engage with it. Central to this approach is that their job was first and foremost that of storytellers rather than entertainers.
In closing, MAYA emerged not merely as a project, but as a philosophical proposition: a call to reimagine storytelling as a democratic, reflective act, one that invites us to question our assumptions, reconstruct meaning, and actively participate in shaping the worlds, both fictional and real, that we inhabit.
Join us at MOG Sundays to participate in conversations that reveal deeper narratives about the worlds we inhabit.
