This World Rhino Day, we are thrilled to announce that the Kenya Wildlife Service has officially approved the introduction of rhinos to Segera Conservancy in Central Kenya, a monumental step toward protecting one of the world’s most endangered species. The garden gives back.⁠⁠Alongside restoration work, our Perma Plot continues to supply fresh produce to security teams and livestock staff, linking regenerative agriculture directly to daily wellbeing.⁠⁠This month alone, the garden provided spinach and kale to teams working across the conservancy.⁠⁠Food systems, like ecosystems, depend on steady care.

We're prepping for the next season.⁠ Seedbeds filled. Crates potted. New growth underway.⁠⁠Focus has shifted to seedling propagation and nursery expansion at the Permaplot.⁠ Recent efforts include potting 135 crates, sowing new seedbeds, and expanding nursery capacity to support the next planting cycle. Current stock now stands at over 133,000 seedlings ready for future restoration work.⁠⁠Preparation today supports restoration tomorrow.

Everyone can feel that this is the start of something beautiful.⁠⁠The mentorship session marked the formal welcome of eight new bursary students entering senior secondary school. They join a growing group of supported learners reinforcing the partnership between students, families, and the ZEITZ foundation. Welcome students and thank you to our donors for your generous support!⁠

Rows of seedlings taking shape across the landscape.⁠ 60 women from across the community, planting thousands of trees in a single week across key restoration zones, including Kambi Ndege and Bullboma.⁠⁠That's over 127,000 seedlings planted this year, and the total number of trees planted to date through the Tree of Life initiative is now more than 1.8 million.⁠⁠⁠This is the Tree of Life. A new generation in training.⁠⁠The newest members of the anti-poaching K9 unit, Harley, Daisy, and Gypsy, are now over two years old. Born on 16 December 2023, they are still undergoing training to fine tune the skills needed for tracking, detection, and field response.⁠ They have already helped solve cases across Greater Segera earning respect from the community and the rangers they support. ⁠⁠These energetic bloodhound puppies will grow into something extraordinary: guardians of this land and protectors of the wildlife and people that calls Segera home. ⁠⁠⁠⁠#conservation #community #culture #commerce
