The score of Ali Cherri’s LA SENTINELLE (The Sentinel) highlights the richness of Beirut’s alternative music scene, with an original score composed by influential pioneer of Middle Eastern underground Zeid Hamdan. The original score also features the song “Kil Rejjel,” with lyrics written in Arabic by Rabih Mroué-inspired by “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” by Oscar Wilde-and which was performed by Khansa, a performance artist from Beirut. @SceneNoise #NewNoise: Known for a storied history of industry-favourite collaborations (including Soapkills, Maii and Zeid, and Zeid and The Wings) legendary Lebanese underground artist Zeid Hamdan has returned with a new solo release, ‘Bossa.’ The track maintains an odd Bossa Nova rhythm, played in 15/8, giving it an intentionally unsteady feel. However, the track’s infectious melody makes for an effortless listen, even as the unusual rhythm creates a lingering sense of suspense. The vision behind the track, whose title translates to ‘Kiss’ in Arabic, was to capture the bliss of the act of kissing through the chorus’s gorgeous chord progression and the delightful interplay of layered guitars. Hamdan once again delivers a captivating addition to his already prolific discography. The release is accompanied by an AI-generated, Black Mirror-esque music video directed by Paris-based visual artist Miko. An ambitious take on modern internet culture, the visual follows Hamdan as he falls in love through a screen before being drained by endless subscription fees; ultimately growing old while reliving his youth virtually through a chip implanted in his skull. ZEID HAMDAN 07.06.26 | 20:00 | Saal präsentiert von Acid Anatolia Der Godfather der libanesischen Underground-Musik kommt am 07.06. ins Knust Zeid Hamdan, der den Spitznamen „Godfather der libanesischen Underground-Musik“ trägt, ist ein Künstler, Komponist und Produzent, dessen Karriere die Independent-Musik im Nahen Osten verändert hat. Als Mitbegründer der legendären Band Soapkills zusammen mit Yasmine Hamdan mischte er Trip-Hop, Dub und orientalische Musik und schuf damit etwas, das die französische Presse als „orientalischen Trip-Hop“ bezeichnete. Ihre Alben Cheftak (2002) und Enta Fen (2005) prägten eine ganze Generation. Als Bedouin Burger arbeitete Zeid mit Lynn Adib zusammen, um elektronische Musik, Jazz und beduinische Einflüsse zu verbinden, und demonstrierte damit sein unstillbares Streben nach Innovation und seine Fähigkeit, sich auf seine kulturellen Wurzeln zurückzubesinnen. Zu seinen jüngsten Kooperationen zählen auch die Zusammenarbeit mit den Singer-Songwritern Maryam Saleh, Maii Waleed und Selin Sümbültepe.
