@dantemaddoxjr.21 in season P&R shooting work during the FIBA break. Focused on playing with force and authority with the handle on set ups/attacks, precision with the feet and on pick ups, and worked his brakes a bit to take advantage of trailing on ball defender’s momentum. 33.9% of Dante’s scoring production comes from P&R on shots like this while remaining one of the most efficient players in Europe. Elite shot maker, scoring 25.8 ppg shooting 58.3 in the mid range and 49% from 3.
I’m a little biased but I’ll put @johnpoulakidas up against anybody in the world shooting the basketball. One of the most efficient players in the G League, shooting 47.3% on 8.5 attempts in the regular season and recently earned a Two-Way contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Here he is working on some late shot clock options at the end of a workout to create space.
Years ago I was fortunate enough to spend time with Kobe Bryant and his girls. It was then that my philosophy in developing young players changed. Kobe created a competitive environment where failure not only happened it was expected, embraced, and weaponized to foster improvement and winning habits. He was one of the most skilled players of all time, and could have been a “you have to do it this way guy” but he taught by giving feedback and allowed them to explore their own individual abilities while empowering them to trust their instincts. Rashaun and Rykan are two of the first players i’ve worked with since middle school after that time. Since then they’ve met and overcome challenges while becoming 1000 point scorers, the school’s all time leading rebounder, first team all city, all catholic league, conference POY, state champions with a chance to win another. More importantly than any of that, hard workers, tenacious competitors with sacrificial mentalities and great teammates. This week I’ll enjoy watching them chase another state title and continue to grow.
@cadenpierce_3 working on his all around game. Shooting off of DHO’s, attacking/defending the closeout in spot up and pick and pop, finishing at the rim off of off ball screening slips and verticality at the rim defensively. Whichever school he chooses is getting a competitor with elite instincts and winning DNA.
@mchristiejr P&R 1v1. Works on set ups, decision making at the level of the screen, attacking and claiming space, and shooting with a rear view contest.
Reject=race to the rim
Deep Under=pull up 3
Under+Attached=re screen
Late Under=turn corner
Over=attack and claim designated space (no screener defender=no rim)
@wendellcarterjr is the most improved shooter in the NBA this season. with a 41.4 3P%, an increase of 18%, 58.3% (+30.7) on shots inside 17’, and 75% (+31) on floaters.
@mchristiejr playing downhill with conviction, skill, and force. Focus was attacking defender’s high foot with simple throw outs, push cross’s, and in and out’s while not breaking stride to win the driving line. Then using a hesitation to either initiate a shoulder war or create space for 3. Max is currently finishing 80% at the rim and shooting 51.4% from 3 when in transition.
@wendellcarterjr working through pick and roll and pick and pop finishing and shooting. Dell is one of the most underrated connective two way bigs in the NBA. Does an excellent job in P&R and DHO as a screener, is shooting a career high 41.2% from 3 and has helped the Magic to an 11-4 record with a top 10 offensive rating in their last 15 games heading into the semi finals of the NBA Cup.
@danny.wolf6 working on turning the corner and finishing out of a variety of DHO/P&R situations. Focus was playing on balance, utilizing full stops, bumps, and decels while also trusting his touch. Danny is off to a great start to his pro career. Averaging 12.8 ppg 5.6 rpg and 2.6 apg while shooting 46.2% from 3 in Brooklyn’s last 5 games.
