Black for Ages (2022) Me and Danni Ebanks-Ingram (@zazoothunder ) made this together, and because we love credits, to be precise: for the video, Danni was the curator and producer; it was directed and edited by us both, and I shot it with two cameras haphazardly attached to one little rig. The visual concept was a direct inspiration from Jem Cohen ( @gravityhill_pictures ), specifically a scene in the Fugazi film Instrument where people are lining up to see a Fugazi show. I wrote and produced the music in June 2020, and it contains a sample from a song I did in 2012 called It Ain’t Over till the Children Sing from the album A Saffron History. The song exists after I said “I’ve been black for ages” in a conversation with Polly Jarman. The video exists because, two years after the song came out, Samiir Saunders (@smaiduskhan ) emailed me with their own art response, which made me think to make a video in 2022, and of course, working with Danni, without whom it definitely wouldn’t exist. “Ticket Line to Freedom - Those in the ticket line have purchased their tickets to their personal and societal freedoms and are waiting” It stars: Danni, Hemel, Joy, Janet, Daniel, Rebecca, Yonatan (@yonatantiruneh ), Eli, Steven, Child 2, Letisha (@autishtic ), Child 3, Debbie, Zephyr, and Chearine. // I've been black for ages.
I don't have to say this.
You can see it in my face
when you race across the street
acting like i'm contagious.
Peep the irony with Covid.
Maybe its inside of me.
You go with your intuition
mixed with your superstition
which forms a few predictions
based in the spider webs you walk through.
Without even knowing it haunts you
and scares me
but rarely would i show it,
instead wearing a mask of being
carefree and stoic. It is what it is
a cage and a fist
below the matter do we exist.
Temptation to kiss
the freedoms that are now in our grip.
The youth are equipped
with knowledge
and the will the resist.
no longer a wish.
the curtains that were drawn to eclipse
the truth on our lips
was not enough to move all the bricks
or break all the whips
Fugazi from the slavery ships.
it is what it is,
but maybe it's not,

I'm pretty gassed to be the Lead Host on the World Kiosk tour. It's not often that you find a project that intersects so many areas of your practice; art, community building, slowing down as a form of resistance, reimagining public space, third spaces + hosting! The project asks questions about ourselves, to reconsider the space we inhabit and make better public places. Stories gathered from hundreds of individuals weave an emotional and compelling narrative of our current collective identity. Touring this summer; Havering, Norfolk+ Norwich Festival, Brighton Festival, Derby + Greenwich World Kiosk is supported by Without Walls and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Commissioned by Brighton Festival and Havering Changing If you'd like to find out a bit more check out @variablematter

"to you, from us" 🔔 *new performance work* 🔔 𝐴𝑛 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠. My Nan (Chearine Ingram) and I have been making a piece of work that looks at intergeneration connection. It's a piece of memory work that focus´ in on the present with ritual and conversation. it's been a real joy to spend time pondering, wondering and making with my Nan. I've grown up seeing memory work as connecting with a person before they die, so their stories aren't lost, this piece of work is the opposite. It's about the now, reflecting on the past while holding and sharing our relationship with people. The relationship I have with my nan is very open and vast, a place of locking horns and calling each other later to say I love you (even though I STILL don't agree with you) If you'd like to see the beginnings of something, the seed of an idea join us on *Wednesday 10th with Talawa Theatre Company in Croydon.* ticket link in bio

outfits in lifts, train platforms and very filled pouches have been the past few months of my life and fuckin ell they've been great. ive been struggling to share on here, until I decided to take my own advice and see this space as a blog for bits and pieces of my life and interests, as a very avid teen user of tumblr i've always enjoyed documenting and in turn being inspired by other people's documentation. The archiving and storytelling of the everyday are really the things that underpin alot of what I find compelling and interesting.

So greateful for the incredible journey working as an assistant costume and set designer on 'Identities' with the absolute legends at @closetohomeproductions 🎭💫 The warmth, care, and love shown by this amazing theatre company has made this experience truly inspiring and inclusive. To the cast and crew, thank you for the valuable lessons on and off stage. Shout-out the queers, the women, the nb's that made this space absolutely hilarious and tbh pretty ridiculous - we're a great bunch when do our ting. Also Identities is still touring... So grab your tickets! #theatre #theatrelife #liveperformance #setdesign #stagecrew #propscrew #costumedesign

Big up More Than A Moment (@mtamgroup ) for inviting me to talk at Beautiful Futures Festival 🎭Celebrating a vision for LGBTQI+ community in the arts! 🌟 Let's take the arts to a equitable, liberated, and safer space. I'm a deep believer in abolition, honesty and creating spaces that are facilitated with and in support of inclusion. Knock the wall down and build something different with those bricks. 😅Unfortunately that doesn't always mean harm will not occur, but the importance of acknowledging harm (the arts be in denial alot of the time) and creating space of repair is important for artists who are on the fringe! 📷@therealslimkezzie on snap (he's a big fanboi) #queerartist #systemchange #abolition #equitableeducation
