I actually typed a super long caption but decided to keep it short. Kinda.
Top 32 out of 254. Still overwhelmed but thankful!
No matter the results, I will continue to learn, keep my mind and heart open and push. Happy to represent ZaiHouz and those who have been supporting me!
Thank you Group H Circle for reminding me that this dance is about EMBRACING ALL STYLES within this dance and being INCLUSIVE (on top of other things). This was the best (and most tiring) cypher I’ve been in 😅 Also thank you the other dancers that night who personally came to me to show love. Arigato! 🫶🏽
Congrats Hiro-san, the other judges, DJ and the @nexthouselab team for another successful year! Till the next one!

Thank you to those who sent your wishes and support! Big ups to the @summerdanceforever team for running this event really well! Thank you DJs Leroy and Yugson for the fire tracks! Till next time!

No words can describe how happy I was to be in this class.
Crazy to think that this “fandom” started 16 years ago!
From YouTube to dancing with them and learning from them.
This was special.
Thank you @oguristkgz for this wonderful piece and having me and @sayakamil dance this with you!
Thank you @richardprayoga for filming!
Thank you @gacha.groove@_clwn.j2 for making this happen 🙏🏽

A little tribute to the King of Pop!
He has a lot of hits but this one’s one of my fav 🦋
Once in a while, it’s nice to just chill and dance like you’re on vacation.
No rushing to anywhere. Feel the wind and enjoy the breeze.
That is what this dance is.

Whenever I teach my classes, I’m always clear about my intentions - what to focus on, what to say, how to do this and why I do that. I set mini goals and prioritise what the learners can take away from the class beyond just the steps. Can this concept or idea be applied in their own practice? That’s why it’s rarely about choreography. I don’t want to hand you a fish but teach you how to fish. You gets?
Anyway for this class, I had 3 simple goals:
1) Create a combo that uses repetitive rhythm so learners can take the load off memorizing many different rhythm patterns and focus more on the combinations of moves. For me, it’s either simple musicality with complex movements or complex musicality with simple movements. I rarely do complex rhythm with complex steps unless it’s an adv/inter class. Speaking of which, if you're down for that challenge, leave a 💪🏽 in the comment)
2) Use the space - left, right, front, back up, down and around (travelling & floor work)
3) How the combo can be done/danced with others (because this dance is about connection, not aggression. To dance WITH and not AGAINST someone).
As viewers watching this clip, I hope you are not expecting to see fancy or flashy moves. These learners come from different backgrounds and usually have a limited time to learn what is being taught so big ups to them for pushing and showing up 👏🏽
Remember, everyone’s learning pace varies so it’s important to go at your pace because it’s not a race. Fun fact: It’s ok to struggle. Struggling is not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign that you are becoming stronger 💪🏽
Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk! If you wanna hear more, see you in class next Monday at @distinctcreativearts 😉
Episode 39.
Alhamdulillah for all the blessings 🤲🏽
Life gets more serene as the year unfolds.
New chapters created, one day at a time.
So don't dwell on the past👌🏽

Coming from a design background, I always use shapes, textures and pattern to guide my movements. It has helped me be more precise and "clean".
Other than the compass 🧭, you can also use the 🕒 as reference for similar moves.
Any fellow teachers use this method? If you have other ways, please share with me and others in the comments!
