It is heartbreaking, concerning and cruel what happened in Ozoro. It shows the decay in our systems and lack of compassion and respect for women. It shows how women are perceived in the society, which is sad to see. All of these festivals, culture, systems enabling violence against women needs to stop. The government at all level needs to do more to ensure that the system works for both genders and that women are not treated like lesser humans. We need to go back to our homes in the way parents, families and community train the boy and girl child. To put as much effort you put in the girl child in the boy child. It is mostly the girl child that are thought to dress properly, to be cultured, to avoid being raped or harassed and blamed when it happens but most often than not the boys are not thought boundaries, how not to feel entitled and to understand consent! not to be rapists. The last slide butresses this. We need a recalibration in this country, we need systems that works and protects every single person irrespective of the gender. We need to stop male orchestrated traditions that demean, violate, harm and take away the rights of women. Enough is enough Only then will their be progress in this country.
