For the last two years, on rare nights when the sky was clear, moonless, and I had time on my hands, I set up my telescope and pointed it at one particular patch of the sky, known as the Heart Nebula.
This is a 13 hour exposure, captured across many nights. There are about 30 more hours of exposures that didn’t make the cut, due to clouds, technical issues, or more clouds…
I chose the Heart Nebula so I could make a print as a wedding gift for my sister and her husband, and while I’m a couple years late, I finally delivered!
This is my second ever completed project through my astrophotography telescope, and I’m really pleased with how it came out 🔭

Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mother who taught me to see every day as an adventure, to love the outdoors, to squeeze the juice out of life, to see every moment as “the best,” to love art, creativity, who taught me to use the home movie camera and video editing as a kid, who believed in me and told me I could make a career and a life out of whatever I loved to do, and who always helped along the way. Thank you mom, for your infectious spirit, joie de vivre, the hosting, the dinners, the way you are a pillar for your community, friend group, extended family, keeping everyone together.
Mothers make this world go round, they are the givers of life, the keepers of morality, the ones who nurture our planet while others attempt to destroy it, thank you all mothers for the hard work that you to do, and thank you mom for creating a beautiful family and being the glue that holds us together! ❤️

This was from the epic aurora storm of October 2024. While pointing my camera back at the cottage, to capture the warm glow underneath the auroras, my friend walked out, not knowing I was crouched in the bushes with my camera. I held my breath, trying not to make a sound. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing through my camera. His silhouette against the cottage lights, the flame of the lighter illuminating the whole front porch, flickering amber while the auroras danced overhead. I love that feeling, of just trying to be invisible with the camera. When what’s unfolding in front of you is so perfect, that the best thing you can do to serve it is to stay out of its way.

Here’s a glimpse at the process that went into capturing this image of the Heart Nebula, and how false colour deep space images are created!

July 2025 - Camping and hiking in Iceland with my dear friends who I would travel to the ends of the earth with! @boriszdlaw@kriskephy@afrolavine This hike was Kristínartindar, encircling a massive glacier. My feet were soaked and cold but we persevered and were rewarded with eye watering views, including this heavenly moment of the sun piercing through the clouds over a glacial lagoon!

The coronas during a solar eclipse reach way further out than our eyes or a camera are capable of capturing, since the range of brightness is massive!
So I ventured to create an image that could portray all of this in one, by combining multiple exposures… but even this was failing to really show the incredible range of brightness in the coronas. So I took it a step further and created this exposure ramping animation, that unveils the incredible range of details from the inner coronas and solar prominences (those red loops made of plasma) to the outer coronas that reach millions of miles away from the sun.
I’m way late as I finally caught some time to process my images from April’s eclipse, but better late than never :)
PS you may notice the visible details on the moon! That’s something called earthshine, where light reflected off the earth lands on the “dark side” of the moon. With a long enough exposure, those details become visible. Everything in this image was captured during the April eclipse’s totality, no AI, no BS 🚀🌚🌞
