The life changing experience I had in India while working on a film and a kids’ book about the fighting kite culture. I visited many cities in India, but it was in Gujarat, Ahmedabad, where I spent the most time and connected more deeply with the culture and the people. I’ve been to so many countries I’ve lost count, and thought no culture could be more welcoming and warm than the Brazilians, until I went to India. Out of the many magical experiences I had on this trip, the most special was spending time with families and learning about their fighter kite traditions and culture. Thank you @vishu_8802__ @maximus_the_us and @its.your_aryann for helping with everything, especially the production. I will definitely be back. Thank you and the families for all the incredible energy you brought into my life and this project. ❤️🇮🇳.

One brief pause — and a photograph that continues to speak decades later. From front-page features to the quieter details that defined an era, @oziermuhammad has captured it all. In this throwback from “The Darkroom MCs,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist reflects on some of his most powerful photographs, including this poignant moment when two men at an Atlanta barbershop paused to watch a march honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. make its way to the Eternal Flame at The King Center. “I wanted to photograph my people,” Muhammad tells @zacalaca and @rfrederickphoto . “That’s the only thing I really wanted to do, and that’s the only thing I really want to do today.” ▪️ “The Darkroom MCs” YouTube.com/AllArtsTV

JOIN US TODAY, Friday, October 3, at 4PM at the @icp Photobook Fest for a signing with @zacalaca Zaca will sign ‘Fire Island Invasion: Day of Independence,’ published by @damiani_books The Fire Island Invasion of the Pines is an annual event that takes place on July 4 on Fire Island, New York. The inaugural invasion took place in 1976 when a drag queen was denied entry into a restaurant in the Pines and a group of her friends, also dressed in drag, stormed the island in protest. Since then, the invasion has been repeated every year, with hundreds of drag queens descending on the Pines to commemorate and celebrate this original act of protest. This book marks the 50th anniversary of this historic cultural phenomenon. New York–based photographer Anderson Zaca (born 1976) began documenting the Invasion in 2007. Shot using black-and-white film and a medium format camera, Zaca’s work combines traditional and contemporary elements, showcasing the intricate details of each scene and capturing the beautifully contradictory nature of the individuals involved. With over 3,000 images spanning almost two decades, Zaca’s photographs serve as both an archive and a tribute to the transformative power of the art of drag during this iconic annual celebration. More via linkinbio #andersonzaca #fireislandinvasion @invasionfireisland #icp #icpphotobookfest #icpbooksigning

Happy birthday bro! I know you went surfing today. Lol. I also know you are celebrating this day with your son Ocean. We will link up soon to celebrate life, brotherhood, the success of the series, our resilience and our future plans. In 2009 when we met at the Bklyn Photo Salon I knew you was real one. We were both trying to figure out this maze of the photography industry. To this day you are still the same joyful brotha I met back then. Life has challenged you multiple times and you stepped up to the plate each time and won! Two published books, a son and now a documentary series on PBS! Amazing bro!! 👏🏾👏🏾 Four years ago when we came up with this brilliant concept to cohost, direct and produce the Darkroom MCs we knew it was going to be an uphill climb but we strategized, pushed through and achieved something the nonbelievers didn’t think we could do. When I was at my worst you was right there when I needed a friend. You came true & through to lift up my spirits and push me forward when I really needed some support. I salute you bro 🙌🏾🙌🏾 We made history together with our first collaboration and we’re just getting started. Looking forward to making more dope sh*t with you bro. Everyone.. please wish my bro and business partner @zacalaca a Happy Birthday today! He deserves it! Lastly, I know he would appreciate it if any of you purchased his latest book ‘Invasion or his first book ‘Block Party.’ Thank you! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 #love #brotherhood #team #family #support #history
