Last week, we celebrated the 99th wedding anniversary of Louis and Lillian Zabar, the founders of our store. Our patriarch and matriarch started the business in 1934, but first they were married in 1927. Louis was a true stickler for quality, roasting his own coffee and personally visiting smokehouses to sample and inspect the fish, rejecting far more than he accepted. But his greatest find by far was Lillian — the love of his life. The principles and practices of our founders continue to guide us today: respect the customer, and never, ever compromise on quality. As Louis and Lillian taught us, succeeding as a family business means loving each other, and loving the business, too 🧡

Sending Passover love from the Upper West Side to Ann Arbor! Lifelong Zabar’s fan and Michigan Men’s basketball player Harrison Hochberg made sure Passover still felt like home, ordering Zabar’s Passover Seder essentials shipped to campus. He teamed up with fellow Wolverines Will Tschetter and Charlie May to share the tradition (and a proper spread) together. Because no matter where you are, a taste of home goes a long way.
